Comment of the Week

Okay — comment of the week is supposed to come out on Fridays — and I flat out forgot. We’ve actually been preparing for company to come and were up till midnight last night cleaning our “guest room”. Company can be such a great motivator to get some things done around here!

On to the comment of week. I’m sure we all knew it would happen, therefore, this week’s comment goes out to the Grit. Unfortunately, the post was regarding child abuse by a white trash family in KS. Please note, many times I use the term white trash with affection, though not in this instance.

All of this brings me around to what I wanted to say, even though it is embarrassing, which is that the parents in question were probably telling the truth. This would not seem all that unusual, if you had ever seen a naked woman and a man clad only in his briefs and a cowboy hat on their front lawn, settling a dispute about their son’s desire to join the Boy Scouts, each with a kitchen knife in one hand and a can of beer in the other, at three in the morning.

See, with the proper background information to give it perspective, it all makes sense )

Keep in mind, due to such funness (I guess I’m making that word up — but it’s a good one) many comments might get caught up in the moderation queue. I do not mind going in there and releasing them, because I like it when you link back to your blog and even the blog of the commenter. So, there you have it boys and girls; I’ve been reading your posts and comments and I know that each and every one of you have that one exceptional comment that stands out. So, go grab it and get back here when you can.

In the mean time — have a splendid weekend; I know we intend to!

Of course you can Bridget! I am positive that I will have repeat winners once I’ve been doing the Comment of the Week for a bit. :)

May I nominate the Queen of Swords again?

It’s one thing when you hear Granny Nutkin talk about that big flyin’ saucer she done seen when she was out polishing the plastic flamingos and glow-in-the-dark Jesus statues in her front yard.

Could only be written by a Southerner.

Hi Grit,

Hope you have a great time with your son and friends. Tieki and I have pretty much played games all day while celebrating her birthday. We have managed to slip some more cleaning and laundry in as we play.

Hi w,

I am most honored!

We, also, are having company tonight. My son and two of his friends are going to grace us with their presence. Thus, I fully understand about being motivated to get some cleaning done :) Looking on the bright side, I won’t have to worry about being fingerprinted for a week or two, since it would seem that I have worn mine off.

Mrs. C.,

Thanks so much for inviting me to a bonus COTW, because right when I signed off, I got to thinking that I’ve had a number of gems this week and thus it was not the simple toss-up that I thought it was. So without further adieu, here’s my Comment of the Week for this post. Oh,, and thanks for being willing to venture into the moderation cue :-D

My new comment comes from Jennifer, a newspaper journalist in Colorado. She was initially responding to you and your daughter’s | unexpected news appearance, but then she went to preemptively respond to a post that I had not yet made.

In fact, she was responding to a picture that appeared on my Flickr widget. I thought for sure that I was about to be shunned by her when I started reading it, but I was relieved to find out the comment was actually a compliment. Here’s the play-by-play:

Scott, that picture of you in the bride is pretty freaky.

:Gulp:

You are a weird person, my friend…

Well, she did say “friend,” but I’m getting one of those gut feelings…

…and that is why…

Uh-oh, here it comes. Ultimate and total rejection….

…I like you. I appreciate weirdness.

Yay!!!!!! I’m still liked in spite of - - well, actually thanks to - -my little quirks!!!!! Yay!!!!!!

Let’s just say it was a good thing I swallowed my tea *before* I clicked on that photo.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
