Oh My! USC is in Town!

Coach Callahan is counting on the 12th man and darn I wish I could be there to pitch in!

From Huskers.com:

So it’s USC week. Bill Callahan and his staff are camped out in their offices in Lincoln, and Pete Carroll and his staff are hunkered down in LA. The lights are out, the film is on and the little red laser is pointing all over the place trying to detect one team’s advantage over the other team’s weakness.

“I know this. They (the Trojans) are going to come in, and they are going to try and audible and check. They do a lot of things at the line of scrimmage, so our fans, our fan base, our stadium . . . it has to be revved up ” Nebraska Coach Bill Callahan said Sunday on his weekly TV show.

“It’s got to be amped up like it never has before to really try and diffuse those checks at the line of scrimmage,” Callahan said. “So, the louder, the better. And hopefully, this will be the loudest stadium ever in the history of Nebraska.”

Tuesday, when someone asked how important crowd noise would be against USC, Callahan didn’t hesitate to seize another opportunity to drive home the same message at his weekly press conference. Read the entire article ….

Do you know how much I’d like to gloat over at this guy’s blog who left this comment on the last Husker post?:

Just watch what USC does to the farm boys. It is going to be ugly.

Is farm boys intended to be an insult? Argh!!! Will I go over to his blog if the Huskersfarmboys.jpg pull this off and be a sore winner? Of course!! With a little persuasion, maybe CavMom will join me? What if the Huskers lose (bite my tongue!)? Well, we’ll just drop it if that’s the case. :)

Does anyone have any ideas for Husker Party snacks? We are open for suggestions!

Update: 49 to 31. Apparently, USC wanted to make the point that they deserve to remain in the number 1 spot after being idle last week. Point taken. Sheesh.

For the record, Rush Limbaugh promoted the Nebraska/USC game on his show yesterday. Guess who’s going to be in Lincoln?

I’m gearing up for big trip tomorrow. I’m going to Lincoln, Nebraska, USC-Nebraska tomorrow night — (interruption) Don’t start ripping on Nebraska. Nebraska is the heartland — (interruption) what are you doing in there? You sound like a lib, “Where’s Nebraska?” Let me tell you something. I like USC-Nebraska college football, yeah. I got a big kick when I watched Hawaii and Northern Colorado when I was on the golf trip in Hawaii. That was a kick because that was on the sideline. No, this is going to be a great game and a great time. But Nebraska is the heartland of the country, Mr. Snerdley. Nebraska is the simplicity of life. You can go to Nebraska and you can capture America as it’s always been. It’s a great place. I’ve been to Lincoln a couple times. Once for a Nebraska game. They played Notre Dame and creamed ‘em, back when Bob Devaney was the coach. I own Nebraska. In fact, on game day at Lincoln, one out of every six Nebraskans is in Lincoln for the game. It’s big. It’s big. It’s an exciting event.

    Hi Scott,

It’s games like these that make me homesick for Nebraska. Rush in Lincoln? How cool is that? I told Tieki Rae that Andy Roddick would most likely be there too. He was born in Omaha and is die hard Husker fan. It makes her cry to not be in NE when Andy’s there. :)

Our best friends in NE have a big screen TV and will be having a party for the game tonight. For a few fun seconds, we thought of driving all night and surprising them this morning. It’s the $400 it would cost in gas that kept us from having our fun. Darn it!

We’ve decided to try out a new green chile recipe in honor of the game tonight. GO BIG RED!!!

    US-WHO? Sorry, I don’t follow college football.

Us-Who is right. Hopefully it won’t matter after tonight’s game. :)

The owner of Big Horn Radio Network is also a Big Red fan. Ironically, Chris Turner, the host of Comfort Food Radio, is a Sooner fan. But that’s OK. Chris is a former CNN reporter and Republican.

    Tammi,

I am asking for sympathy as a fan of the 0-3 and rebuilding (I hope) Fighting Irish.

I also need your e-mail address. I lost it and would like to send it to the national director of the grassroots campaign for Duncan Hunter.

send it to conservativecommonman@yahoo.com or sepierce@conservativevaluesinillinois.org

    Thanks,
    Sam

Ouch Sam! Notre Dame? They certainly helped to rebuild Michigan’s confidence today, huh?

I know how painful those rebuilding years can be. We are really hoping this to be the year for Nebraska!

    I’ll send you my email.

Not a fan - not as if I cheer for opponents, either - but Go, Huskers!

    Hi Bridget,

There’s 1:12 left in the 2nd quarter and we’re down 21 / 10. I think we can still get it done. Especially with your little cheer!

Tammi………..Well I was watching this game last night and was pulling for Nebraska, but it got kind of messy. Like to see USC pick up a L somewhere, not that it would help Ohio State much, but I now can support Florida too since we are establishing residency down there this year. ………..steve

Yeah, messy … I’d like to say I’m an Ohio State fan, but, well … darn it, I can’t. I think Nebraska will do all right if they just put this game behind them, though the Big 12 is a tough division.

Was it Tennessee that Florida just beat this weekend? Nevertheless, football season is upon us which is a great thing!

    Colts won today!

How’s it been going? I haven’t heard from you much lately. Not that I’ve been any better. Life is soooo busy.

    Tammi,

I’ve really been in the weeds with work on my Brother-In-Law’s estate. It is that and seeking resolution with his Law Firm and restructuring a lot of real estate. I’ve sort of been 24/7 on it and trying to get enough done to return to Florida on the 29th of Sept. Maybe down there I can get back online more……..steve

    Hi Steve,

I had guessed that was what had been keeping you so busy. I cannot believe it’s getting that time of year for snowbirds to fly south! I’m not ready for summer to be gone, but it is all the less days before Tieki Rae comes home for Christmas. :)
