I’m back! What a fun time. Where should I start? Well, only three of the Republican Candidates for President came to Wyoming today; Congressman Duncan Hunter, Senator Sam Brownback, and Fred Thompson. The latter only went to Casper this morning and did not travel on to Riverton for the second forum. Many candidates asked to send surrogates, but if you let one candidate do that, then they all will do it. Therefore the forum committee made it clear that only Presidential Candidates could speak at the forum. However, since Fred Thompson actually did come to Wyoming, his opening speech in Casper was videoed and played in the Riverton auditorium. It seemed fair enough.
What didn’t seem fair, and actually ticked me off, was that Mitt Romney sent his son and a few others from his campaign. Well, Mitt’s son, Josh, started playing the I own land in Wyoming and pay property taxes in Wyoming card. So, not sure who made the decision, but someone decided to give Josh Romney 6 minutes to speak in Riverton on behalf of his father. Of course, the 6 minutes turned into more than 10. How fair is that to the other candidates who wanted to send surrogates? Not very. Not to mention, I thought it was a slap in the face to the candidates who actually bothered to come to Wyoming. Not sure if you realize it or not, but one actually does have to go out of their way to come here, though Mitt Romney is not one of those people.
After Josh Romney wrapped up his spiel, it was Congressman Hunter’s turn. Wow! He was spectacular. No surprise to me, but I spoke to several Republican friends who knew nothing of Hunter prior to the forum and could hardly wait to cast a ballot for him at our convention in January! I didn’t take notes and I’m not really not regretting it. Go here if you want to know where Duncan stands on the issues because he doesn’t waiver and he has a long voting record that matches his stance on issues. I will tell you that Wyoming discovered Hunter today, and thanks to most of the candidates snubbing our state, I think Hunter will win here.
I’ll give Senator Brownback some credit. I like Sam. He really is a stand up guy. I wish his stance on illegal immigration was different, but until that changes, I can’t support him. Once again though, he is a great guy. I really think most of you would like him. He’s fairly young and will most likely run again in the future.
UPDATE: Oops, forgot to credit Scott, from Wyoming Vote Tracker for taking the picture of me with Congressman Hunter. Thanks Scott!

You met Duncan Hunter? Awesome! He’s got such a long uphill battle, but it’s starting to look possible for him. He’s got a LOT of support down here in ultra-rural Louisiana.
Sidenote: The lady in that photo once told me ‘Welcome back and you are the coolest person in the world.” Not braggin’. Just telling you the truth.
Hi Kevin,
I’m looking pretty slick with Congressman Hunter, huh?
He does have an uphill battle, but with Wyoming being a convention state, and being first (for now) I think it’ll give him the perfect jump if he wins here.
Tieki and I have a list of all our precinct committee people, and know many of them personally. We will be lobbying on Hunter’s behalf as January gets closer. I’ll be so proud of Wyoming Republicans if Hunter carries this state!
Good to see we have another Hunter fan on the internet! I got to participate and ask a question in a recent conference call with him and he reinforced my good initial impressions of his campaign and stance on the issues. Haven’t yet gotten to meet the Congressman but like Wyoming the Eastern Shore of Maryland is sort of forgotten territory when it comes to Presidential politics.
Duncan did think that once the campaign shifts from name recognition mode to issue mode it’ll help his campaign. I sure hope so. He seems to be the second choice of a lot of people I know but no one wants to be behind a perceived lower-tier candidate.
I’m happy he got out to Wyoming and you got to meet the man though.
Hey, thanks for recap. Don’t know if you are familiar with FreeRepublic, but he has a huge fan base there, which is one of top conservative forums on the net.

I took the liberty of posting your article there.

Tammi,
I am so glad he showed up! As I saw last Saturday night at The Eagle Forum Leadership Council, he wins support when people actually get to hear him. I got to meet him as well and it was an honor!
I can’t describe the feeling I get when I am told that he can’t win. It is a battle worth fighting and I am hoping enough regular people get motivated to do the right thing!
Sam
Hi Michael,
Thanks for stopping in! Yes, the name recognition is a problem. Hopefully not for long though!
DUNCAN HUNTER for PRESIDENT!
Thank you for the report–DH is a great American and more than qualified to lead this republic
Hi pissant,
Thanks so much for the mention at Free Republic.
I’m glad Hunter has a huge following there — I cannot say it enough; Duncan Hunter is the PERFECT conservative candidate for President.
Hi Sam,
He’s had my support and as I mentioned to Kevin, Tieki Rae and I will be calling precinct committee people over Christmas Break when she is home. We want to see him start off the year with a Wyoming win and the other states follow our lead.
Hi Walter,
You are certainly welcome! It is an honor to report on the great Congressman. Such a pleasure to meet him too!
Perfect is right. Not since RWR has there been a man of this caliber running.
and FWIW, this Washington Stater loves Wyoming.
Have a nice night.
It’s worth a lot!
You know that there are no words to express my jealousy, right? Holy cow that’s awesome! Duncan Hunter is really amazing and I can’t wait until he’s officially President Hunter.
I like the sound of that, President Hunter! That ain’t no President-Vegetarian-Sissy-Boy like the Silky Pony and company.
Lol Tieki! God forbid any DemonRat win the White House — even the Silky Pony priss.
HI! It was great to meet you in person!
I’m back in Cody, shortly after 11 PM, only two close calls with the deers.
As Tieki Rae would put it, Duncan Hunter is a truly incredible man. I loved his opening line “Must be nice to have your kids speak well of you.” OK, so I loved his entire presentation. On a scale of 1 to 10, he gets an 11, because Park County will love him once word gets around that he already knows about the Yellowstone East Gate issue (blog post coming!!!!!). Thank you, Rep. Cubin.
The Precinct Committeewoman from Park County was a bit upset in her own right as she didn’t get to get the “public forum question” for Park County (our slick state Rep. that’s less conservative than his wife–but more so than his father–took it “by proxy” in Casper). She did get her questions asked in the meet and greet though, but the proxy rule didn’t wet too well with her. Time to go to my blog and make Tieki Rae more jealous…
Thank you for this report!
I am a long time Hunter fan and I linked to your post. Duncan is the real deal. We have a rare chance to elect a man like this.
I am familiar with the above commenter’s, Walter and pissant. They are long time Duncan supporters also.
Yes we have a hard fight on our hands. Talk to people, hand out some lit, donate him some cash and we can win this thing. No one can attack Duncan on his record. No other candidate can compare. What we do hear is “he cant win..look at polls”…As you said it was many peoples first time hearing about Hunter. That is true. He does not play on TV shows and he is not rich. What he does have is a 26 year record fighting for the conservative cause on the House floor. When conservatives take the time to learn about him, they see he is the clear choice. Keep up the good work and tell people about Duncan Hunter.
Hi Scott,
It was fun meeting in person. I have to admit, it didn’t really seem like meeting you for the first time since we’ve know each other through blogging for so long.
You made good time going back to Cody. Only two close calls with deer? Not bad!
Hi Kilo,
You are welcome for the report. It’s really not much, and is just straight from the heart. Conservatives finally get the ideal candidate, and some don’t even realize it! Well, we realize it in Wyoming.
Look for more blogs on Congressman Hunter — I will get the word out on this fantastic GOP Presidential Candidate!
I’m jealous! Wow, that must have been fun!
For the life of me, I can’t understand this attitude on illegal immigration. As I said on my blog, if you are a teacher and, on the first day of class, some kid comes in late and starts mouthing off at you, you’re going to think, “Wow, it’ll be a long year.” If the kid then takes his first opportunity to cheat on a test, you aren’t going to expect him to be a model student.
Why should it be different for immigration? The first thing these people have done is to break the law. Then, not content with that, they break the law some more (with the help of their employers) to get jobs. Then, adding fuel to the fire, they obtain licenses illegally, drive without registering their cars or insuring themselves, break housing regulations, and cause mayhem. Why does anyone then expect that granting them amnesty will do anything good?
That ain’t no President-Vegetarian-Sissy-Boy like the Silky Pony and company.
Have something against vegetarians, Tieki Rae? HARRUMPH!
(Just think - there’s more meat for you when I eat pasta and tofu.)
Yeah — and less tofu! Yes! Lol!
Your points are just common sense Bridget. Illegal aliens start off breaking our laws and we are supposed to assume entering the country is the only law they disrespect? No, as you pointed out, they cannot be here without continually living their lives as a complete disrespect for our laws.
If my computer wasn’t being such a snot, I could have had the post up sooner. I did get it all typed before I forgot though! Especially my unexpected post-forum run-in with Rep. Hunter!
I’m still working getting the pic up, but I have an idea to pursue on that.
Yes, the blogging relationship did take some the ice-breaking away. I’m also thinking I left my jacket in Riverton. Hopefully, they have a lost and found…
Oh, and just so Bridget knows, I’m a proud member of PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals
I am a Wyoming precinct person and I can’t wait to vote for Duncan Hunter at our county convention.
Hi Chris!
That is wonderful news! I really hope Hunter slam dunks Wyoming.
Well, Scott, if God didn’t want you to eat animals, he wouldn’t have made them out of meat, right?
FYI: I hate PETA. I’m an environmental/free market/health vegetarian, not a “Oh, those poor animals are treated almost as badly as aborted fetuses” vegetarian. (Whoops! Was that snark directed at the group that has more sympathy for a cow than for a human baby?)
Hey Bridget,
Thanks girl!
Anyone who leaves more meat for us and less tofu is a friend indeed.
Chris, spread your enthusiasm to the rest of the committee members in your county!
Bridget: Thanks for the clarification on your vegan life, and for leaving more meat for me to eat.
I’m not CRAZY. I eat ice cream, chocolate, more chocolate, hot chocolate with cream, mac & cheese, cupcakes, cheese, and other things that make life worth living.
I’ll take one for the team and eat the tofu. Y’all can have more lobster, swordfish, salmon, cow, chicken, pig, turkey, venison, veal, bacon, ham, spare ribs, Kobe burgers, and the like.
Hi Bridget,
I need to start leaving more cupcakes for you to eat! Lol!
Last night before the Monday Night football game started, Ted was mentioning how he saw Hostess cupcakes on sale at the grocery store that day. We’re bad, because we like snacks with the game. Well, last night we decided to behave ourselves and resolved that in order to have those cupcakes, we would have to walk to and from the store to get them! By gosh, we had cupcakes for the game!
YAY!!! That’s my rationale with ice cream - if I walk across campus and a block down to the ice cream store, I can get a cone. I’ve eaten a LOT of chocolate amaretto.
Ha ha Bridget! The mind is a terrible thing to waste. I use mine to rationalize eating cupcakes.
