Sex Offender Arrested in Virginia

I know I’ve been a little absent from blogging. It’s that other part of my world that interferes once in awhile. You know, I think we refer to it as real life? :)

Anyway, I saw this and thought of it as a good news bad news story. Good news that the pervert was caught. Bad news that he was even walking the streets in the first place and that he was taken in alive. I’d heard a few days ago that he was considered to be armed and dangerous. I have to admit, that always makes me a little giddy hoping they somehow manage to get shot and killed instead of taken into custody without incidence. Really, think of the tax dollars that could be saved.

It looks like the law is really getting tough:

Mitchell had 14 prior arrests ranging from burglary and bomb threats to lewd and lascivious conduct, police said.

The girl ran away the day a new Florida law took effect making the state’s sex predator penalties some of the toughest in the nation.

The law requires offenders to register e-mail and instant message handles with authorities, information that will be shared with social networking sites like Myspace.com. The state also tripled the maximum sentences to 15 years for soliciting minors for sex and possessing child pornography.

I’d laugh if that wasn’t so completely asinine. Umm… which email addresses and instant message handles are they suppose to register with authorities? I mean, we all know how difficult it is to get MORE THAN ONE!! How is that even enforceable?! Why not change the 15 years to either death or life in prison? This way, we won’t have to worry about their freaking email and IM handles. Seriously, 15 years is considered tough?! Not in my book.

These are the kind of posts that get you weird and creepy search terms.

Yeah, kind of like Ron Paul posts. :)

15 years is a disgrace. Death or life in prison (with castration) sounds more appropriate to me.

    Hi Sam,
How could I forget the castration part? Certainly that would be most just. Let’s see … the order could go something like this:
    1. Castration
    2. Death
    3. Burn in hell — therefore, we don’t even need life in prison!

    Yes!

Yeah, I was wondering about castration, too. Not the chemical kind - the mechanical kind, and without anaesthesia. I mean, if you didn’t sedate the girls while you raped them, why should you be sedated while made into a little pansy?

Of course, they will register IM screen names and the like. Because they’ll be totally honest. Crazies, when faced with state regulation, always put their psycho pervert tendencies aside and play nicely with the men in suits. Why do liberals always think that regulation will change anything? These people HAD regulations - they were called laws and morals - but that didn’t stop them from using Lolita as a how-to guide. In Liberal La-La Land, however, Humbert Humbert sees a bunch of paperwork and turns into a nice guy who can’t wait to get home to his same-age wife and bake her a freakin meatloaf.

Sorry for the rant. These people have already proven that tough laws (those involving prison and criminal records) aren’t enough; why would wimpy little paperwork regulations do anything? It’s like saying, well, the brakes on my car don’t work, so I’ll make it stop by touching my baby toe to the pavement.

    GRRRRR.

    Hi Bridget,
Rants are always welcome! Since I spaced off Comment of the Week, maybe this Friday’s will contain the term castration?!

That’s a good plan. :) After all, when kids can’t play with their toys the way they are supposed to, we take the toys away. Should work with adults too, right?

And to make it worse, those who get 15 years are often out in 7 or less because of good behavior or over-crowding.

I think you are correct. The death penalty would solve the crowdin issue in the prisons. Providing the President does not pardon them!

    Tammi,

I scrolled back, you haven’t been that absent from blogging, at least not like me. Any way….good news about the bum being arrested. It is amazing that you can have 14 priors and be lucky enough to come up against permissive judges and parole authorities………..steve

    Hi CavMom,
Tieki Rae blogged about that story at the end of the link you posted up there. Infuriating!

    Hi Steve,
No, not absent like you. :) Are you black in Florida? We’ve already had a couple snows here in WY. So, if FL was an option, we might be headed down! Just kidding — winters aren’t bad here.

Always great when you have time to stop by.

I simply cannot fathom why paedophiles would not want to initiate sexual relations with their 300 lb tattooed, unshaven bunk mates. Astonishing.

  14. 14 Next Stop Lauderdale

Tammi………yep we are back in Florida. If the weather chases you out we have a bunk here for a visit for you.

Bridget……..300 pounds? Must be tempting to some :( Puke Puke

    Steve,

My badly-made point was that 300-lb bunkmates fight back. Little kids don’t. Is it any surprise that they exhibit “good behaviour” when the only molestation going on involves you?

In the prison world, inmates who do time for hurting little kids get it the worst. You can bet that they are on their best behaviour. It shouldn’t be a mitigating factor at all.

    Hi Tammi,

I know about busy ;) It’s that time of year.

As to punishment for sex offenders (and other violent crimes for that matter,) impalement? With a blunt stake? Oh, and it should be televised.

    Hi Grit!

Thanks for stopping in. Yes, now that would be reality TV worth watching. :)
