Breaking News: Callahan fired:
Saturday morning, one day after completing Nebraska’s worst season in 46 years, Athletic Director Tom Osborne met with Bill Callahan and his staff at the Osborne Athletic Complex, delivering the news and ending six weeks of uncertainty about Callahan’s future as head coach.
“It isn’t wins and losses, it’s how you do it,” Osborne said this morning.
“I really appreciate the effort these guys put into it. I was hoping
yesterday we’d have a different outcome than what we did.”
Regarding a successor, “In the next few days, I’ll try to talk to four or five people and try to move this thing along,” Osborne said.
“The Kansas game was a big turning point; that was a big loss,” he added. “The Kansas game was certainly a major factor. I was really pleased with the effort against Texas. The turnovers were a big factor against Kansas and certainly a big factor against Colorado.” Read the full article at the Omaha World Herald
Well, tonight KU plays Missouri for the Big 12 Championship. Since NE isn’t a factor, I wish the best for the Jayhawks.
UPDATE: I thought it was early for the Big 12 Championship and Bob assures me that it is. Kansas and Missouri are playing to see who will play OU for the Big 12 Championship. As much as I respect the Sooners, I’m still pulling for the Jayhawks to take the Big 12. So, tonight could be a first step towards that. Thanks Bob!
UPDATE 2: NU Football: Gill, Pelini emerge as coaching candidates
Not that I get a vote, but Turner Gill is awesome. In reality, it might be easier just to get someone you don’t like to coach at NE. This way, if they hit the road, no hard feelings.
UPDATE 3: No2Liberals has the scoop!

Just a little fun for the Christmas season. It is the most wonderful time of the year.

Breaking news from the Denver Post:
FORT COLLINS — This city will not be remembered as the one that booted Christmas, city council members said tonight.
The council voted 6-1 to ignore ideas from a city task force that called for an “inclusive” holiday celebration that would replace traditional colored lights with only white lights on the outside of city buildings.
Instead, the council said old-time Christmas symbols - wreaths, decorated trees and colored lights - will remain next to city buildings.
A new multi-cultural display, however, will be erected at the city’s museum.
Mayor Doug Hutchinson said Fort Collins earned a Grinch-like reputation because of the task force’s suggestions to de-emphasize Christmas during the holidays.
“This will probably have a residual effect on the city,” Hutchinson said. “But this is still a great, inclusive city.”
What residual effect would that be Mr. Hutchinson? Do tell.
Over 40 residents spoke out against the Holiday Display Task Force’s recommendations - which included using only white lights, secular winter symbols and unadorned garlands of greenery on city buildings.
The all-volunteer task force, which included clergy, had called for an emphasis on multi-cultural displays and an overall celebration of the winter season rather than a particular holiday.
Many who took turns at the microphone during a two-hour public hearing criticized the task force’s recommendations as diminishing Christmas.
“Basically, the city subtly… removed Christmas and replaced it with a pagan holiday called the winter holiday,” said resident Jerry Nettles.
“I don’t celebrate winter.”
At least the sheriff has it right:
Sphere: Related ContentLarimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden also challenged the task force, saying he would erect a Christmas tree
outside of the sheriff’s administration building on Dec. 1 and invited residents to decorate with Christmas symbols.
From OneNewsNow.com, Allie Martin writes:
A Colorado city is considering a plan that one attorney calls the epitome of the war against Christmas.
Tonight, the Fort Collins City Council will meet and decide the fate of a task force report that urges the city to decorate with white lights, winter symbols not traditionally associated with any particular holiday, and unadorned garlands of greenery. City staffers are also encouraged to remove ornaments or stars from trees and red ribbons from wreaths.
Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, says the task force is seriously misguided. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that anyone would consider banning red and green because they are associated with Christmas, because they believe that anything associated with Christmas, being religious, has to be banned,” he says. “I think this absurdity really underscores the extent to which this war against Christmas has escalated.” Continue reading article …
Why are there so many Christmas Grinch’s out there? Well, of course one commenter at OneNewsNow understands that it is a safety issue and nothing against red and green Christmas colors:
It has nothing to do with being anti-Christmas. It’s a matter of safety. How are you supposed to see the traffic signals against a backdrop of red and green lights. THAT’S why most towns use white lights.

PetSmart’s Response Concerning Christmas Promotions
PetSmart has heard and is addressing concerns about “Christmas” not being found in our online holiday promotional material. While we do not have a policy related to the use of holiday terms in our marketing and advertising materials and our omission of Christmas was not necessarily a conscious one, it is unfortunate and regrettable. You will be pleased to know we have already made some changes to incorporate Christmas on our website and will continue to do so where possible. (For example, if you visit www.petsmart.com you will see a banner inviting you to “Surprise your pet with the perfect gift for Christmas & the Holiday season.”) We strive to be authentic in what we say and do and believe that the use of Christmas or other religious or cultural terms in describing holiday related products and activities is in keeping with that brand characteristic. Thanks for voicing your concerns with us.

“If president, I will be pro-life,” Romney said.
My apologies for the Casper Star Tribune link, they seem to be having some technical issues. However, that quote makes me uneasy. If president, he will be pro-life? What is he now? Personally, I think Mitt is all things to all people. I hope that isn’t misconstrued as a compliment, because it’s not meant as one.

Well, that’s what the headline says. However, if you read the entire article from ABC News, you might form the same the opinion I did; Irresponsible parenting leads to teen’s suicide. How terribly sad that parents are not taking responsibility when it comes to the time their children spend on the internet.
To summarize, we have an innocent 13 year old girl, Megan, suffering from depression. Her parents claim that she has low self esteem but for some reason fail to connect the fact that they are separated with plans to divorce as having anything to do with Megan’s depression. I like to refer to that as burying your head in the sand, or Ostrich syndrome.
For some reason, Megan’s mother allows her to befriend a cute boy on MySpace (keep in mind that Megan is only 13):
When a cute boy befriended Megan on the social networking site MySpace, the two formed a quick connection during their more than month-long relationship.
“She got this e-mail from this boy named Josh Evans,” Tina Meier said.
Evans claimed to be a 16-year-old boy who lived nearby and was home schooled. But what began as a promising online friendship soon turned sour, as compliments turned to insults.
I’m sorry? I guessed I missed the part of what on earth possesses a parent to knowingly allow their 13 year old depressed daughter, already taking medication, to befriend a complete stranger online?! Oh, it gets better:
Evans said he didn’t have a phone and so Megan couldn’t talk to him. But the two continued their communication online, despite some red flags Tina Meier said she saw.
“It was just that nervous mom,” Tina Meier said. She called police to find out if they could determine if a MySpace account was real. They couldn’t.
Hello?!!! Anybody home?!! Now, all of a sudden Tina Meier believes she is intelligent enough to protect other people’s children from online predators and hoaxes? To be fair, this seems to be a pattern in the lives of idiots. I mean, haven’t you seen it before? Parents do a crappy job of raising their own children and then all of a sudden they’re signing up to be foster parents. I always find that so entertaining. I guess they’re mission in life is to see how big of a black mark they can leave on the earth before departing. Sheesh!
Still, all seemed to go well between Megan and Josh until an unsettling message started a tragic chain of events.
“Megan gets an e-mail, or a message from Josh on her MySpace on Oct. 15, 2006, saying, ‘I don’t know if I want to be friends with you any longer because I hear you’re not nice to your friends,’” Tina Meier said.
Someone using Josh’s account was sending cruel messages and Megan called her mother, saying electronic bulletins were being posted about her, saying things like, “Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat,” according to the Associated Press.
Well, there never was any Josh in the first place. Only an two worthless parents destroying the life of one beautiful, naive, innocent child.
Tina Meier discovered her daughter’s body in a bedroom closet on Oct. 16, 2006. Megan had hanged herself and died a day later.
But six weeks after Megan’s death, the Meiers learned Josh Evans never existed. A mother, who had learned of the page from her own daughter, told the Meiers a neighborhood mom had created and monitored Evans’ profile and page.
Sad. Two mothers with less common sense than one slug.
“When emotionally vulnerable young people get online, they can be very easily manipulated,” said Nancy Willard, executive director of the Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use.
Yes, that’s true. However, responsible parenting can prevent tragedies such as this from ever occurring. We need to pray for children we know of personally who have poor excuses for parents.

But freaking colleges are bound and determined to show you. The Chairman of the College Republicans sent out a letter in attempt to organize a protest:
Dear Republicans,
It has come to my attention and the attention of your executive board that
this Friday at 8 PM there will be a session in Goldwin Smith entitled
“Anal Sex 101″ that is funded by our student activities fee. The Student
activities fee is the sum of money that we currently use to support
different organizations around campus that put on large scale events.
While we do not think that all events funded under that fee have to
conform to our conservative stances, we also believe that condoning such a
moral atrocity using our own student money is abhorrent and should not go
unnoticed. To that effect, we will be meeting on Friday at 6:30 PM in the lobby of
Goldwin Smith to make signs that protest the event. If you believe that
your money shouldn’t be going towards funding events of such morally
atrocious nature, if you believe that the dean of students office should
not be encouraging or condoning such a practice, or if you believe that
people shouldn’t be forced to pay into a system that uses their money to
to teach things which are not within the bound of mainstream moral decency
then you must come and protest! We need as much support as we can get
–this is our chance to share our values and let everyone know that
Conservatives are a strong and vocal voice on this campus. For alumni that are receiving this email I would urge you to make your
opinion heard on this issue through contacting the dean of Students Kent
Hubbell at klh4@cornell.edu.See you at 6:30 PM in the lobby of Goldwin Smith.
Conservatively,
Ahmed Salem
Chairman, Cornell College Republicans
How about that mission statement of the LGBTs?
Our mission is to coordinate the efforts of the entire Cornell University community to ensure the inclusion of all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, and to eliminate heterosexism and gender identity oppression.
The Resource Center affirms lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender identities and lives, and provides education, outreach, programming, program support, consultation, community development, visibility, and advocacy.
In other words, if you don’t agree with their immorality, you are the intolerant one. I can live with that.
