Who Will It Be Now?

nebraska.jpgBreaking News: Callahan fired:

Saturday morning, one day after completing Nebraska’s worst season in 46 years, Athletic Director Tom Osborne met with Bill Callahan and his staff at the Osborne Athletic Complex, delivering the news and ending six weeks of uncertainty about Callahan’s future as head coach.

“It isn’t wins and losses, it’s how you do it,” Osborne said this morning.

“I really appreciate the effort these guys put into it. I was hopingcallahan_into_every_life_a_little_rain_must_fall.jpg yesterday we’d have a different outcome than what we did.”

Regarding a successor, “In the next few days, I’ll try to talk to four or five people and try to move this thing along,” Osborne said.

“The Kansas game was a big turning point; that was a big loss,” he added. “The Kansas game was certainly a major factor. I was really pleased with the effort against Texas. The turnovers were a big factor against Kansas and certainly a big factor against Colorado.” Read the full article at the Omaha World Herald

kansas.gifWell, tonight KU plays Missouri for the Big 12 Championship. Since NE isn’t a factor, I wish the best for the Jayhawks.

UPDATE: I thought it was early for the Big 12 Championship and Bob assures me that it is. Kansas and Missouri are playing to see who will play OU for the Big 12 Championship. As much as I respect the Sooners, I’m still pulling for the Jayhawks to take the Big 12. So, tonight could be a first step towards that. Thanks Bob!

UPDATE 2: NU Football: Gill, Pelini emerge as coaching candidates
Not that I get a vote, but Turner Gill is awesome. In reality, it might be easier just to get someone you don’t like to coach at NE. This way, if they hit the road, no hard feelings.

UPDATE 3: No2Liberals has the scoop!

Excuse me, but KU isn’t playing Mizzou for the Big 12 Championship. They are only playing for the chance to play Oklahoma for the Big 12 title. Big difference! Boomer Sooner!

I thought Bill had done a good job, and that his defensive coordinator should have been fired. This will really hurt their recruiting, I think, especially where they need it the most, on defense.
The AD that was replaced by Tom, was the one who really screwed up, by not keeping Bo Pellini, after he took the Huskers to a bowl victory, the year Solich was fired.
I was pulling for KU to go to San Antone too, but as I watch, UM is up by three and are in completer control.
I was going to pull for the Sooner’s in the Big XII game anyway, so guess they will have to beat UM again.
You know what that will mean, right?
With OU beating UM, it will mean WVU and OSU in the BCS Championship. I won’t be watching that game, unless there is absolutely nothing on tv that night.

    Hi no2liberals,

Yeah, I suspect there is no love lost between Callahan and Osborn. I like Bill too, and feel bad, but the Husker football program is not very tolerant of a losing season. I think Gans did a great job as QB, and it was definitely the defense losing the games.

I’m still watching the game. It’s the end of the 3rd quarter. KU finally put some points on the board, but UM answered right back.

I’m confused … you intend to pull for OSU to win the Big 12 Championship, yet not watch them if they play for a national championship? I would pull for any Big 12 team in the national championship, except CO. :) Just can’t stand those stinky Buffaloes.

    No-n-no-NO!
Not Oklahoma State, Ohio State University.
I don’t care about watching a bunch of yankee teams in the championship.

Ohhhh …. duh! I think I’m on too much cold medicine. It’s not the Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship but the Sooners. Dang, I’ve gotta get some sleep at night. :) I hear you now. And I do think that OU will beat Missouri in the Big 12. Though, you never know.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of yankee teams playing in for a national championship either.

Sorry to hear you have a cold.
Best thing for it is rest.

Hey thanks friend. Well, I’ve been on vacation all week. I hope that’s rest enough. :) Tomorrow starts back to the ol’ grind. :(

Tammi……I’ve been having some problems accessing your website. I keep getting a “runtime error” message, but I have learned if I click yes enough times it will eventually come through. I’m in a Hampton Inn (brand new) in North Carolina ahd though it is early I’ve been in the “business center” since about 5AM. I thought I’d try to go to your site from a “different” computer than my Florida Computer and see if I had a problem and I did, but I learned to click through it here, I assumed at home that it was something with my computer.

Anyway………sorry about Kansas. It would have been just fine for me to have OK beat Kansas instead of Missouri this coming weekend. :) …………steve

I forgot to add: “GO Bucks!”

    Hey Steve,

Ooooo … As much as I like OU, I think I am going to be pulling for the Tigers in the Big 12 Championship. I think they stand a pretty decent chance of taking it to the Buckeyes. KU had their run, but Missouri is always quite consistent. Hmmm … should be some interesting bowl games!

In reality, our family just wants to see the Huskers back in Championship contingency one day …. :)

The Huskers will be back. Tradition too strong for anything else, but this year may be the Bucks or then again I remember last year………….:)

    ………..steve
