Seriously, I do not claim to be an expert on the document. However, it is a fairly short and simple document, compared to what many are led to believe. Regardless, here we have Congress beginning another delve into baseball. Am I crazy when I think this group of blow hards (Congressmen, not baseball players) should actually be doing other things?
I’m simply disgusted by their lack of understanding of what they are elected for.

No you are not crazy. Congress should let baseball clean it’s own house. Good grief I see that there is concern that 50 Cent is on steroids as well. *insert picture of me rolling my eyes*
I love sports as well as any other good form of entertainment. I do not think the leaders of our country need to be spending valuable time and tax dollars monitoring entertainment outlets.

Hi Tammi - I was just thinking the same thing this week! Don’t they have anything better to do? Must be an easy way to meet some baseball stars and not do any real work.

Hi Tammi,
This problem stems from the monopolies that Congress has granted various sports. While this status is necessary for their big success, it also puts them under the regularly thumb of Big Brother. The reverse is also true, meaning that any corruption in such a Government granted monopoly reflects badly on the Government, forcing Congress to step in and clean things up.
As to the Constitutional authority of Congress to do these things, the over liberal interpretation of the Commerce Clause, Article I Section 8, giving Congress the power to regulate commerce between the several States, places this well within their jurisdiction. Of course, the Supreme Court has been totally insane in their interpretation of this part of the Constitution, but, unfortunately, my opinion in this matter holds no sway. This same loose interpretation of said wording is also the reason Congress can regulate the amount of water your toilet uses per flush, what labeling is on the products you buy, and what recreational drugs you can’t buy. It’s also interesting to note that, even if a product is produced and sold totally within any particular State, they’ve managed to extend the power of Congress to regulate it if any part of said product is produced outside that State, or if there is any possibility that product will cross State lines.
And people wonder why the Government allows public education to constantly suck.

The Grit is right about the Commerce Clause. That is also responsible for the rise of the agency state - things like the EPA, FDA, or TSA.
Now, Congress created agencies because it claimed it didn’t have enough time to regulate the environment, drugs, flights, etc. It never stopped to think that it is well-designed to do those things it should be doing. So the solution is to make all of these Big Brother agencies (90% of our laws come from them, and we can’t kick out the lawmakers), and then use their free time to investigate baseball.
I want to parody it. I really, really do… but it’s not funny, because it’s true.

Hi Everyone!
Thanks for stopping in with your comments.
CavMom and Neil — I agree, waste of time! Yet, I do understand the Grit’s point. That’s why I posted it — and the Grit and Bridget do make me feel a little better about it all. Though, I do hate the big brother agencies that Bridget speaks of.
Hope you guys all have a fantastic week. I’m off tomorrow and then back to the ol’ grind for a while.
If this garbage is enabled by the commerce clause then I say we give up. I say we go ahead and accept whatever comes from the ever expanding government. I say we let Hillary or Barrack have their way with us. I suggest we drink ourselves into a stupor and continue to drink until a liver disease relieves us. Hopefully that way we will be numb to the creeping socialism as it destroys our lives!
How the hell do average people justify casting their votes? Does the life described in Orwell’s “1984″ really seem attractive to the majority of voters? Of course I realize that they are just apathetic and/or looking for some “help.”
youre right on spot Tammi..what tools they all are!:)
