Bighorn Sheep in the Canyon

It took living here 4 years before we finally spotted bighorn sheep in our canyon, but one was out again tonight. Poor Tieki Rae, she has yet to see any, except the stuffed ones in the museums. So, I emailed some of these pictures to her tonight.  :)

Here is a funny shot of it right next to Tieki’s car (which we’re driving to save gas while she’s in DC for a few days. We also drove her car over the 4th of July while she was in Israel. At that time, something dented the trunk a smidge, we are assuming some sort of firework, nevertheless, we were hoping that silly sheep would behave and not ram her car. We knew we’d be in trouble if that happened!

Pretty cool, huh?

A Little Wyoming Fun

Tieki Rae and I will be heading down to Cheyenne this weekend to spend a couple days having fun. I have to admit, I haven’t been to a decent rodeo since leaving Dodge City, KS back in 1996. Being from KS makes me partial towards Dodge City Days, and honestly, that was one of the hardest things to leave behind. We had good friends that we only saw every year when the rodeo came to town, and we haven’t seen them since.

Anyway, it’s down to Frontier Days for us. We’ll be attending a couple rodeos, the Rascal Flatts concert, and one night of PBR.

Hope everyone reading this has a fantastic weekend. I’ll be back next Thursday. In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves and have fun.

Rest in Peace Tony Snow

The world lost a treasure of a man today; Tony Snow. Rest in peace dear friend and God bless your family and friends in this time of mourning.

“Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend Tony Snow,” President Bush said in a statement. “The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character.”

Snow died at 2 a.m. Saturday at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

A man of character indeed.

Rice: Democratic forces emerging in Palestinian territories

Exactly what kind of democracy would that be Secretary Rice?

Rice said Iran had suffered “setbacks” and Al-Qaeda was “on its heels,” while democracy had made a “breakthrough” with women voting in Kuwait, “democratic forces” emerging in the Palestinian territories and “a democracy at the center of the Arab world in Iraq.”

“We’re now beginning to see that perhaps it’s not so popular to be a suicide bomber. We’re beginning to see that perhaps people are questioning whether Osama bin Laden ought to really be the face of Islam,” she said.

Perhaps it’s becoming more popular to kidnap citizens in attempt to extort negotiations from actual civilized nations?

Hamas on Friday announced that it was suspending all negotiations with Israel over the release of captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit. The deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau, Mussa Abu Marzuk, said that the talks were being frozen because Israel was not displaying commitment to the truce agreement with his organization in Gaza.

Captured? Let’s just call it what it is; kidnapped. Believe it or not, there is a difference.

Abu Marzuk told the London-based daily Al Hayat that Hamas would not send a delegation to the talks slated to take place in Cairo. He claimed that Israel was not living up to its obligations under the cease-fire and was closing the passages to the Strip.

“It does not make any sense that we should open negotiations while Israel does not honor the truce,” Abu Marzuk said. “The issue will be postponed until the Egyptians invest the efforts together with the Israelis - in order to honor the truce agreement - open the crossings and prevent Muhammad Dahlan and Fatah from sabotaging the truce deal.”

Abu Marzuk did not specify what Israeli truce violations he was referring to.

Hmmm… Israel’s latest negotiations with that other terrorist organization wouldn’t be playing a role in this, would it?

Another senior activist in the organization was quoted by the paper as saying that “After the prisoner swap deal between Israel and Lebanon, according to which Lebanese prisoner Samir Kuntar is slated to go free, Israel is expected to display greater flexibility in talks over a prisoner swap with Hamas.”

So, I’ll reiterate: Exactly what kind of democratic force is emerging? I’ll tell you, it’s not any sort of civilized democracy. Some people are just not eligible to participate in democracy, because they believe targeting innocent civilians is just, along with kidnapping and extortion.

Israel should let every Palestinian starve to death until they release Gilad.

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Independence Day everyone! I had a cute patriotic picture to post, but WordPress is not feeling patriotic today. :)

Regardless, be safe, eat meat, (except for you Bridget) :) and have a blast. We’ll be out at the parade and celebrating our independence — however, it it gets too hot in the afternoon I might come into the cool house and visit some of ya’ll’s sites.

Bridget, since you don’t eat meat, maybe you could eat some extra ice cream? Yum!

Jerusalem: Bulldozer driver shot dead after going on rampage in capital

A quick post because I’m getting around for work. Tieki Rae just called this morning to tell me about this. She was there just a couple days back, but is now up north. Pray for the victims of this attack and of course take note that it was an off duty IDF soldier who ended the attack.

At least four people were killed and 44 were wounded - one seriously, one moderately and 42 lightly - on Wednesday afternoon when a bulldozer driver went on a rampage in downtown Jerusalem.

Police said that the driver plowed his vehicle into two public buses, toppling them over, and slammed into several cars.

A off-duty soldier took the gun from an elite policeman at the scene and shot the terrorist dead. The soldier, Moshe Klessner, 18, is the brother-in-law of IDF officer David Shapira, who killed the terrorist in the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva attack, Channel 2 reported.

Klessner was assisted in neutralizing the attacker by another elite policeman.

Another elite policeman was lightly wounded, apparently by gunfire, indicating that the terrorist was armed.

Police said the incident was definitely a terror attack, emphasizing that the terrorist, Jabr Duwait, a 32-year-old father of two from Jebl Mukaber, was carrying an Israeli identity card. The Mercaz Harav attacker was from the very same east Jerusalem town.

“My son never spoke of plans to carry out such an attack, if he had I would have tried to prevent it, Duwait’s father, Tayseer told The Media Line as police officers were about to question him.

The attack, at the junction of Jaffa Street and Rechov Sha’arei Yisreal, set off a panic in the area.

Dozens of people ran through the streets to flee the scene of the attack and a car was dragged several meters by the bulldozer before being crushed under the vehicle.

A baby was being treated in Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital and his parents were yet to be tracked down. The indication was that the baby was thrown out of the car by one of his parents before the vehicle was crushed.

The bulldozer was apparently being used for construction work on the Jerusalem light rail project.

Asaf Shalev, who was near the scene of the attack, told the Jerusalem Post that he heard about “an accident” and ran to the area. He described how he saw a “path of destruction” leading from the construction site and numerous policemen “examining the bulldozer.”

The Media Line News Agency contributed to this report

Also, thanks for continuing to keep Tieki in your prayers for safety.

UPDATE: They acted precisely how they were taught

UPDATE 2: From Ynet News: 3 Killed as Palestinian Bulldozer Driver Goes on Killing Spree in Jerusalem:

According to an assessment by the Gaza Strip organizations, as well as by sources in the Palestinian Authority, the Jerusalem attack was an independent act carried out by the driver alone; However, a Hamas spokesman said Wednesday that the Jerusalem attack was “a natural reaction to Israel’s aggression,” adding the group did not know who was behind the attack.

The Islamic Jihad issued a statement praising Wednesday’s attack:“The attack is a clear message to the enemy from the person who carried it out and the entire Palestinian people, that it should expect more attacks for as long as it continues its crimes against the Palestinian people and the aggression against our people, our land and our places.”
