Heartbreaking Story — Family pet swept up and killed by a NYC Street Sweeper

Found this via Drudge. It just infuriates me that a city worker could be so careless and crass. It really hits home because we have a Boston Terrier and realize how they become a member of the family and steal your heart. I feel terrible for this family.

NEW YORK (CBS) ? A Bronx man is devastated after his dog was swept up and killed by a city street sweeper Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at Randall and St. Lawrence avenues in the Soundview section of the borough. Witnesses say the sweeper came speeding down the street, swerving to avoid a speed bump, before yanking the dog, a Boston terrier named Ginger, right out of its leash.

The worker should not be allowed to continue running this piece of machinery:

Ginger and her mate, Buster, were both on leashes on the side of the street when the sweeper approached. Witnesses say the vehicle was moving at about 30 or 40 mph, must faster than the 10 mph it’s supposed to go, and that the driver was listening to headphones.

“He came so close to the car that he sucked the dog off the leash,” said Isamar Maldonado, who saw the horrifying incident. “He was not paying attention, and while you’re on duty you’re not supposed to [have headphones] on.”

Witnesses say they chased the truck for blocks, but when he finally stopped they say he refused to shut down the mechanical broom.

“We couldn’t believe that man could be driving that fast and sweep up the little dog like he was a piece of garbage or something, and then don’t even say ‘I’m sorry,’” said Maldonado.

Apparently the Department of Sanitation thinks it’s fine for this moron to continue in his duties.

The driver of the sweeper continues to sweep streets in that neighborhood while the investigation is ongoing.

Never mind that according to witnesses he was driving too fast and not paying attention. God forbid if a child was in his way.

Because Obama Says ….

Oh my. This would be funny if this guy didn’t stand a chance of being the next leader of the free world:

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,” Obama said.

“That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen,” he added.

What do you mean that’s not going to happen? Is he going to stop us or just attempt to make it so that no one can afford any of the luxuries listed above except for the communist dictator in office?

$845 Billion Dollar Obama Bill

From OneNewsNow:

Cliff Kincaid, president of America’s Survival, states he is very concerned about Obama’s legislation, which has already been approved by a voice vote in the Senate Armed Services Committee and is similar to a bill passed by the House last year (H.R. 1302). Kincaid says the Senate bill would commit the United States to $845 billion in foreign aid over a 13-year period.

“This bill subordinates U.S. foreign policy to the U.N. and commits us to fulfill what are called the U.N. Millennium goals — that is, 0.7 percent of GNP to foreign aid. And that means we’ve got to come up $845 billion,” he laments.

Global taxes anyone? Is this one of the changes he’s always shooting his pie hole off about? Is this what they refer to as progressive?

It has a stench of global communism to my nostrils.

Teen sisters killed in Springs

Very sad news from the Denver Post:

The two victims who died after the shooting at New Life Church in Colorado Springs are teenage sisters, and the girls’ father was also shot, according to police.

Colorado Springs police released the names of shooting victims this morning.

The two killed at the church are sisters Stephanie Works, 18, and Rachael Works, 16, police said. The girls were home-schooled, according to a district spokesperson.

Also, from the same article:

The shooter was shot and killed by a volunteer security guard at the church, said Boyd.

Boyd said the security guard, a woman with a law enforcement background, whom he did not identify, encountered the gunman in a hallway at the church and fired on him, saving many lives.

“He had enough ammunition on him to cause a lot of damage,” Boyd said.

Boyd said the gunman has no ties to the church.

“It was just absolutley random,” Boyd said. “A senseless random attack.”

Praise God for that courageous lady.

My most sincere sympathy to the families who lost loved ones in this tragic ordeal.

Gunman Kills Eight, Then Kills Himself, at Omaha Shopping Mall

We need to pray for the people in Omaha — especially victims and relatives of victims.

UPDATE: Very strange coincidence. I heard Debora Maruca-Kovac, a surgical nurse at Nebraska Medical Center, being interviewed by some guy on CNN before we left for church tonight. Funny thing, she forgot to mention that, “Oh by the way, the kid who shot these people today has been living with my family over the last year.” The CNN guy had no clue when he had her on the phone earlier. Typical homicidal maniac:

Though he had his troubles, Hawkins was gentle and loved animals, Maruca-Kovac said.

But he also had a drinking problem and would occasionally smoke marijuana in his bedroom, she said. Hawkins liked to listen to music and play video games “normal teenager stuff,” she said.

“He was a very helpful young man, but he was quiet,” Maruca-Kovac said. “He didn’t cause a lot of trouble. He tried to help out all the time. He was very thankful for everything. He wasn’t a violent person at all.”

Call me cynical, but I don’t believe a word of it.

UPDATE: HotAir has a thread going on the incident

UPDATE 2: I enjoy this blog and PTG has a great post regarding this tragedy. Sample:

I don’t understand why any self-respecting citizen would let a store or mall policy take away their natural right to self defense by force of arms, whether such right is deemed guaranteed by the US Constitution or not. I‘ll not be reduced to “huddling in a corner” as David Codrea at War on Guns describes today’s victim’s plight.

Who Will It Be Now?

nebraska.jpgBreaking News: Callahan fired:

Saturday morning, one day after completing Nebraska’s worst season in 46 years, Athletic Director Tom Osborne met with Bill Callahan and his staff at the Osborne Athletic Complex, delivering the news and ending six weeks of uncertainty about Callahan’s future as head coach.

“It isn’t wins and losses, it’s how you do it,” Osborne said this morning.

“I really appreciate the effort these guys put into it. I was hopingcallahan_into_every_life_a_little_rain_must_fall.jpg yesterday we’d have a different outcome than what we did.”

Regarding a successor, “In the next few days, I’ll try to talk to four or five people and try to move this thing along,” Osborne said.

“The Kansas game was a big turning point; that was a big loss,” he added. “The Kansas game was certainly a major factor. I was really pleased with the effort against Texas. The turnovers were a big factor against Kansas and certainly a big factor against Colorado.” Read the full article at the Omaha World Herald

kansas.gifWell, tonight KU plays Missouri for the Big 12 Championship. Since NE isn’t a factor, I wish the best for the Jayhawks.

UPDATE: I thought it was early for the Big 12 Championship and Bob assures me that it is. Kansas and Missouri are playing to see who will play OU for the Big 12 Championship. As much as I respect the Sooners, I’m still pulling for the Jayhawks to take the Big 12. So, tonight could be a first step towards that. Thanks Bob!

UPDATE 2: NU Football: Gill, Pelini emerge as coaching candidates
Not that I get a vote, but Turner Gill is awesome. In reality, it might be easier just to get someone you don’t like to coach at NE. This way, if they hit the road, no hard feelings.

Parental Cyber Bullying Leads to Teen’s Suicide

Well, that’s what the headline says. However, if you read the entire article from ABC News, you might form the same the opinion I did; Irresponsible parenting leads to teen’s suicide. How terribly sad that parents are not taking responsibility when it comes to the time their children spend on the internet.

megan.jpgTo summarize, we have an innocent 13 year old girl, Megan, suffering from depression. Her parents claim that she has low self esteem but for some reason fail to connect the fact that they are separated with plans to divorce as having anything to do with Megan’s depression. I like to refer to that as burying your head in the sand, or Ostrich syndrome.

For some reason, Megan’s mother allows her to befriend a cute boy on MySpace (keep in mind that Megan is only 13):

When a cute boy befriended Megan on the social networking site MySpace, the two formed a quick connection during their more than month-long relationship.

“She got this e-mail from this boy named Josh Evans,” Tina Meier said.

Evans claimed to be a 16-year-old boy who lived nearby and was home schooled. But what began as a promising online friendship soon turned sour, as compliments turned to insults.

I’m sorry? I guessed I missed the part of what on earth possesses a parent to knowingly allow their 13 year old depressed daughter, already taking medication, to befriend a complete stranger online?! Oh, it gets better:

Evans said he didn’t have a phone and so Megan couldn’t talk to him. But the two continued their communication online, despite some red flags Tina Meier said she saw.

“It was just that nervous mom,” Tina Meier said. She called police to find out if they could determine if a MySpace account was real. They couldn’t.

Hello?!!! Anybody home?!! Now, all of a sudden Tina Meier believes she is intelligent enough to protect other people’s children from online predators and hoaxes? To be fair, this seems to be a pattern in the lives of idiots. I mean, haven’t you seen it before? Parents do a crappy job of raising their own children and then all of a sudden they’re signing up to be foster parents. I always find that so entertaining. I guess they’re mission in life is to see how big of a black mark they can leave on the earth before departing. Sheesh!

Still, all seemed to go well between Megan and Josh until an unsettling message started a tragic chain of events.

“Megan gets an e-mail, or a message from Josh on her MySpace on Oct. 15, 2006, saying, ‘I don’t know if I want to be friends with you any longer because I hear you’re not nice to your friends,’” Tina Meier said.

Someone using Josh’s account was sending cruel messages and Megan called her mother, saying electronic bulletins were being posted about her, saying things like, “Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat,” according to the Associated Press.

Well, there never was any Josh in the first place. Only an two worthless parents destroying the life of one beautiful, naive, innocent child.

Tina Meier discovered her daughter’s body in a bedroom closet on Oct. 16, 2006. Megan had hanged herself and died a day later.

But six weeks after Megan’s death, the Meiers learned Josh Evans never existed. A mother, who had learned of the page from her own daughter, told the Meiers a neighborhood mom had created and monitored Evans’ profile and page.

Sad. Two mothers with less common sense than one slug.

“When emotionally vulnerable young people get online, they can be very easily manipulated,” said Nancy Willard, executive director of the Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use.

Yes, that’s true. However, responsible parenting can prevent tragedies such as this from ever occurring. We need to pray for children we know of personally who have poor excuses for parents.

Feeding the hate

For an incident that happened on September 20th, I’m sure having difficulty finding the MSM coverage. What incident you ask? Oh, nothing much, just a race hating protest going on at Grambling State University in Louisiana that included placing a noose around a kindergarten student’s neck.

Don’t get too excited, it was a lesson the young girl needed to learn so that she’ll never forget how she’s been treated by whites. Oh, that’s right, the people placing the noose around her neck are black! I’m confused, so I cannot imagine what that little girl must have been thinking.

The article can be found at The News Star. However, it seems that pictures of the educational lesson have been hard to find, I mean taken down. Fortunately, a friend has sent me a picture:

Feeding the Hate

Apparently, the lesson took place because the children in kindergarten were curious as to why anyone would go to jail over a school yard fight. I guess the teachers forgot to mention that the school yard fight involved 6 kids beating 1 kid into unconsciousness, but who cares, right?

The incident happened Sept. 20, the same day thousands of protesters took part in a civil rights march in Jena alongside the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to speak out against the arrests on adult charges of six black defendants accused of beating a fellow white classmate into unconsciousness. The mock rally of smaller scale took place at Alma J. Brown Elementary School, which is on the GSU campus and run by the university.

I, personally, am outraged over the reverse turn that racism has taken. I’m sick of people demanding that the color of their skin get noticed, and frankly, I don’t care what color your skin is. I won’t deny blacks the right to hate whites or even whites the right to hate blacks. Attempting to legislate what’s in a person’s heart is futile.

I firmly believe that hate crimes legislation simply spawns more hatred. I don’t think the Jena six should be (or even are for that matter) prosecuted because they were 6 black kids trying to seriously harm a white kid. I think they should be prosecuted because they are six thugs trying to bring serious bodily harm to another person. I’d feel the same way if the tables were turned and the perpetrators were white and the victim black. But to come to the defense of the thugs who committed this barbaric act, on the basis of race? Are you nuts?! Trust me, there are people out there much more worth your time than these thugs. Am I missing something?

In the meantime, I pray that the little girl in the picture realizes that forgiveness can be a necessary key to living a successful life. One day, we will all be accountable for our own actions, and pointing the finger and blaming others will get us nowhere.

Oh, did I mention the woman holding the little girl up so she could fit her head in the noose was her grandmother? Continue reading ‘Feeding the hate’

The Kelsey Briggs Story

The video below takes 5 minutes to watch, and even less time to become enraged at a worthless system that fails to protect children.

We have a man that goes away to fight a war and returns home to bury his beautiful child. Why? Because apparently the mother of the child is a piece of crap who only cares for herself. And the system … well, there are no words to describe a system that allows continued contact between a mother despicable whore and a beautiful child.

I realize not all children can be protected, but this child appears to have been failed in a most intentional manner. The step-father and the biological mother both deserved nothing less than the death penalty. Yet, both may someday walk out of prison? Justice would amount to each of them being tortured and killed in prison. Here’s hoping that happens.

Dogs disappear around Star Valley

How frustrating is this situation?!labpuppy.jpg

JACKSON — A rash of dog disappearances has dog owners on alert in northwest Wyoming, particularly in Lincoln County.

Mary Ann Ahrens with the Animal Humane Association of Star Valley said there have been between 12 and 14 dogs taken from cars and yards from Smoot to Alpine since early August. All the dogs are Labrador retrievers.

“It’s getting bad,” Ahrens said. “These dogs are just disappearing.”

We’re talking smashing car windows to steal pets, removing them from the bed of a pickup, or just stealing them from private property. It isn’t believed that the labs are being stolen for hunting - duh! Hunters are typically hard working and have more character than to steal other’s dogs.

The suspected reason is sickening: Continue reading ‘Dogs disappear around Star Valley’
