I’m from the guvmint and I’m here to help.

thanksgiving.jpgCheck it out. The federal government is going to speed the flow of holiday travelers next week! Maybe you’re more optimistic than I am, but it’s just something about the government getting involved that typically results in a mess.

The Air Transport Association expects 27 million passengers during the 12 days surrounding Thanksgiving.

This is the worst year on record for aviation delays, and the White House is trying to ease congestion not just during the holidays - but for next summer’s busy travel season as well. ” We want to make sure next year does not duplicate what happened this year,” a White House official said.

I guess airline tickets must be less expensive for most folks. When I priced tickets for Thanksgiving break for Tieki Rae coming home they were well over $1000, many reaching $2000+. Needless to say, poor Tieki has to wait until Christmas break to come home. :(

Oh, and this little snippet:

President Bush is also expected to announce raising compensation for passengers who are bumped off an overbooked flight. The Transportation Department has been drafting proposed increases for passengers ranging from $200 to more than $600.

Additionally at New York’s JFK airport, one of the nation’s most delayed airports, the government is considering slightly altering landing and take-off patterns to speed up arrivals and departures.

First of all, I love it when Tieki gets bumped because it means a free trip. However, who’s going to pay for this increased compensation the White House is talking about?

I realize the federal government has to be involved in the aviation industry, but isn’t less really more? They think they can speed up travel and make the airlines run efficiently, when government itself runs so inefficiently? Just saying.

Are you traveling over Thanksgiving? Leave a comment regarding holiday plans. :) Don’t leave anything so specific that leftards and islamofascists can locate and harass you, but do share if you feel so inclined. For the first time ever (not counting last year when my husband was in the hospital) I have the entire week of Thanksgiving off. AND … I think we are just planning to stay home, relax, eat, and watch football! Doesn’t that sound spectacular? Of course, the only thing that could make it better would be if we were loaded and could afford those $1500 airline tickets to bring the Tiekster home. (Don’t tell her I called her that!)

‘He’s like a miracle’ Everett’s mother hopeful for son’s recovery

buffalo_bills.jpg

This is wonderful news! Especially when on Sunday and Monday, the news coming out on Everett was not good. We tuned into this game after the helmet to helmet tackle and I still haven’t seen the hit — don’t really care to. I’m just so happy for the hopeful reports coming out.

I found this article at Sports Illustrated:

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Patricia Dugas reached out, touched Kevin Everett’s arm and asked her son if he couldkevineverett.jpg feel her hand. Everett — lying in a hospital bed, barely awake and hooked to life support systems — nodded yes.

“I can’t even explain it to you, he’s like a miracle,” Dugas said, her voice breaking in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

She went on to say:

“That’s right. They’re surprised themselves,” Dugas said. “They don’t know Kevin Everett. Oh, man, I always told him when he was a little boy, ‘You show them better than you can tell them.’ He’s going to be fine. I really believe it.”

She said Everett can shake his head, even throw it back in laughter. He has trouble speaking because of a breathing tube, so instead she said Everett is using a device to spell out words on a screen by hitting letters with a pen in his mouth.

Keep getting better kid.

Vick Enters Guilty Plea

This just in (at least as far as I’m aware):

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback arrived at the federal courthouse in a sport utility vehicle Monday and walked into court flanked by his attorneys. His supporters erupted in a roaring cheer drowning out his opponents, silently holding signs.

First of all, how atrocious to be cheering for someone who is admitting to animal abuse of the worst kind? Sorry, I’m a die hard Ann Coulter fan, but if she was pleading guilty to something this heinous, I’d drop her like a hot potato! I’m so glad I only have to stand by her when she uses words like faggot. :) …. Continue reading ‘Vick Enters Guilty Plea’

Vick Suspended Indefinitely by the NFL

Allah continues updating over at HotAir, and since I work at a job that normally doesn’t include blogging and need to be spending time with my husband who will be leaving for TX in the morning, I’m just stealing Allah’s updates. Though, I’ve been told it’s not really stealing if I properly credit him.

From ESPN there is a link to the entire letter from Roger Goodell sent to Vick. I find the entire letter interesting, but the best part is:

“Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible” and regardless whether henfl_goodell_65.jpg personally placed bets, “your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player.”

Goodell went on to say:

“You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league’s personal conduct policy,” Goodell told Vick in a letter after meeting in New York with Falcons president and general manager Rich McKay.

“You are now justifiably facing consequences for the decisions you made and the conduct in which you engaged. Your career, freedom and public standing are now in the most serious jeopardy,” Goodell wrote. “I hope that you will be able to learn from this difficult experience and emerge from it better prepared to act responsibly and to make the kinds of choices that are expected of a conscientious and law abiding citizen.”

Vic Accepts Plea

UPDATE (08/24/07): Bumped up to today.

No time to post it — Allah has it over at HotAir. Looks like Vic will most likely get it easier than anticipated — and I anticipated it would be pretty easy in the first place. Well, at least he’ll be able to get back to throwing the football quicker. /sarcasm

From FoxSports:

Twenty-five days after he declared that he looked forward to clearing his name, Vick said through defense lawyer Billy Martin that he will plead guilty. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.

“Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made,” Martin said in a statement. “Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.”

nm_vick_070717_ms.jpgApparently clearing his good name just isn’t going to work out. Shocked? I’m not. I am getting a little sick of beating this dead horse, but I started blogging this story several months ago and intend to see it through. Is it just me, or is the MSM making animal abuse sound less and less hideous?

The NFL noted in a statement that the Atlanta Falcons quarterback’s admission wasn’t in line with what he told commissioner Roger Goodell shortly after being charged.

“We totally condemn the conduct outlined in the charges, which is inconsistent with what Michael VickFalcons,” the NFL said. previously told both our office and the Falcons,” the NFL said.

The league, which barred Vick from training camp, said it has asked the Falcons to withhold further action while the NFL’s own investigation wraps up.

Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, said in a statement:

“We believe the criminal conduct to which Mr. Vick has pled guilty today cannot be condoned under any circumstances. Speaking personally, as I have previously stated, the practice of dog fighting is offensive and completely unacceptable. I can only hope that Mr. Vick, who is young man, will learn from this awful experience.”

If you’re interested in the entire article, click on the FoxSports link above. For now, let’s just end this post with some views from a scumbag defense attorney:

Another defense attorney, James D. “Butch” Williams Jr., alluded to the harsh public backlash against Vick since the July 17 indictment detailed the abuse of dogs on Vick’s property in Surry County, Va.

“Michael is a father, he’s a son, he’s a human being — people oftentimes forget that,” he said, adding that Vick is “very remorseful.”

“Nobody’s been rougher on Mike than Mike’s been on himself,” Williams said.

Do you think Michael really regrets his dog abusing / killing tendencies? Or, could it just possibly be that he thought he was now above the law and the only thing he regrets is finding out he’s not and that he got caught?

Comment of the Week!

Yay!!! It’s Friday!!! Normally, I prepost Comment of the Week, but I’m belting this one out as I watch TSA open my luggage and go through it at the airport.

We’ve had some commenting problems with WordPress over the last couple of days, but we’re not going to let that spoil the fun. Also, keep in mind that I’m traveling, so I might not be able to make it to the spam compacter very regularly. Be patient, maybe Tieki Rae will have mercy and keep an eye on the filter today for me. (Hint Tieki.)

This week I am thankful for my new customized theme created by MommyZabs. However, the generosity of others always makes me emotional. Therefore, comment of the week goes to Kevin for offering to yet again, customize my header:

Here’s my suggestion. Feel free to use it! ;)

Remember how to play:

  • Go back to your own blog and find your favorite comment that someone left you
  • Copy it and bring it back here and post it in the comments of this post
  • Please feel free to link back to your blog /post where the comment took place and also the commenter’s blog.
  • If your comment gets caught in the moderation queue, call me. Just kidding! I have a new plugin that should let you through the spam filter, even with the links! We’ll see, huh?
  • Okay — please play! Show some love!

Vick Must Decide Whether to Accept Plea Agreement

I guess my question would be why? Others have already been given pleas for their testimonies against Vick. Apparently, playing the race card is paying off.

That comes on the heels of news that co-defendants Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips are scheduled to appear in federal court in Richmond at the end of the week and are expected to accept their own plea agreements. Peace’s hearing is at 9 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, while Phillips will appear on Friday at the same time. Plea agreements would clear them to testify against Vick.

You can read the entire article at ESPN, but I thought this paragraph was cute:

In a Richmond, Va., court in late July, Vick pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities, and conspiring to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture. He said in a written statement that he looked forward to “clearing my good name.” He also pleaded with the public to resist a rush to judgment.

Good luck with clearing your good name Michael. In the meantime, I think the team is ready to move on without the gangsta:

“I don’t think anybody on this team right now is hoping that Mike comes back,” Dunn said. “If he comes back, that’s great, but I just think right now we’re at point where the guys that are here are trying to get better and move on down the road. Mike is going to be missed and has been missed, but at the same time you have to go on.”

Later dude — you had your chance. Now’s the time to put that college education to work for yourself. ;)
