Comment of the Week!

Ah ha! I didn’t forget! (Mostly because I set an alert to remind myself with Outlook and am writing this Thursday night prior to hitting the sack.) :)

Yay!! It’s Friday!!! Always remember, EVERYONE is a winner that comments at Sunflower Desert (except for libtards).

Anyway, I thought it would be fun for the winner to be our favorite atheist elephant commenting on my Creflo Dollar tells Senator Grassley where he can put it post:

Sorry, the Constitution does not protect vulgarity, pornography, and the murder of children.
Ditto that. The First Amendment protects speech, not expression; a reasonable interpretation excludes porn. “Speech,” in 1790, did not include pornography.

The Constitution leaves matters of health, safety, and welfare to the States. If the people elect legislators who outlaw abortion, then you can’t whine and complain that it’s just not fair that you have to be pregnant after having unprotected sex.

My rant, by the way, extends to the estate tax. If you are smart enough to make your money, then you can decide if your kids are smart enough to spend it wisely; you can decide if your kids are fools, but hey, it’s your money and you can waste it; or you can decide if you want it to go to charity. I don’t see how the government should be involved in that.

(The worst part is, if you’ll permit an off-topic rant, that the estate tax hits really early. Imagine parents of a mentally and physically disabled kid. $2 million isn’t enough to keep that kid going for the rest of his life. Then there’s wealthy parents with a lot of kids - once you’re done splitting the pie eight or nine or ten ways, there’s not much, but hey, it’s still “a lot of money and really really unfair” so the gov’t taxes it.

The nation was founded on capitalistic principles, among others. If you don’t like it, go over to Russia or China or Romania, and enjoy the equality there - everyone is equally POOR.

Remember how to play:

Christian Ministry Rebuffs Senate Finances Probe

Good for Reverend Creflo Dollar! Sorry folks, I’ve kept silent on this issue long enough. I happen to enjoy many of the ministries who have been probed by the invasive Senator Grassley. I think Creflo has answered correctly.

crflo.jpgA lawyer for preacher Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church International in suburban Atlanta has asked Sen. Charles Grassley to either refer the matter to the IRS or get a subpoena, according to a letter from Dollar’s attorney obtained Wednesday by the AP.

Continuing from the article:

Grassley emphasized the other five still have time. The senator also reiterated that his probe “has nothing to do with church doctrine” and is strictly concerned with making sure the tax-exempt groups are following the law.

Well, if that’s the case, how is this Grassley’s or the US Senate’s business? Wrong agency. Creflo has it right — the IRS should be handling this. You would think someone basically inviting the IRS to take a look at things is on the up and up and most likely have their T’s crossed and their I’s dotted.

Also, many of you may take issues with the Gospel of Prosperity, so to speak. However, I see no where in the Word indicating that God wants us poor. To me, prosperity is clearly included in the Gospel, but I’m unwilling to debate it because it doesn’t matter to me if you agree or not. I think it’s obvious that it is impossible to spread the Gospel without money. These particular ministries have huge followings or congregations. When someone is the CEO of a private business, they earn a large salary. I see know reason why men and women of God shouldn’t earn the same. Not to mention, these ministries have huge overhead and employ hundreds of people per ministry.

You can save your holier than thous they’re in the ministry and shouldn’t flaunt their money speeches. If you don’t like it, don’t give to them. It’s a free country, people can support whatever ministries they choose. Oh, but they take advantage of the elderly and those on fixed incomes?! Phooey! Gambling casinos that send buses to retirement centers the day social security checks arrive are taking advantage of the elderly on fixed incomes. Jump on that bandwagon.

Most of the people who are whining about people getting taken advantage of are selfish idiots upset that someone in their family gives to a particular ministry instead of giving them the money.

Oh, and if you think I’m denying that there are ministries doing things wrong financially, you would be incorrect. I realize those situations exist, and I know God can deal with it. He’s big enough. Christians attacking other Christians can become ridiculous. Many times, these same denominational ministries doing the attacking and finger pointing are the exact same denominational ministries who are apologizing to the freaking muslim community for offending them; calling that vile cult the religion of peace. I’m one that believes we should choose our battles a little more wisely.

Also, critics never look at all the wonderful things these ministries do. Kenneth Copeland ministries played a huge role in Louisiana after Katrina. Did the MSM cover that? I think not.

That felt good. :) I feel liberated! Now, where’s my checkbook … anyone standing up for their Constitutional rights such as Reverend Creflo Dollar makes me just want to write a check!  :)  Join in if you feel the Spirit move you!

$110 Million in Tax Refunds Undelivered

I can imagine forgetting to tell the IRS you’ve moved when you owe them money, but not when they owe you! Who doesn’t miss this kind of money?

From the Omaha World (AP):

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than $110 million in tax refund checks went uncashed this year, mostly because people did not tell the Internal Revenue Service or the post office when they moved, the IRS said Wednesday.

The agency said 115,478 taxpayers did not get a refund check — in some cases it was more than one check — averaging about $953. The money can be claimed as soon as taxpayers update their addresses with the IRS.

There are 371 taxpayers on the list for Nebraska, with checks totaling $220,162 and the average refund amount being about $593.

“Taxpayers should not miss out on getting their money back,” said Richard Morgante, commissioner of the IRS Wage and Investment division.

You think?!

The IRS in 2007 has processed nearly 105 million refunds either by mail or direct deposit, totaling about $240 billion. Undeliverable refunds make up about one-tenth of 1 percent of all refunds, or about one in 1,000.

The list of taxpayers with undeliverable refund checks went up about 21 percent from 2006, an increase due in part to the Telephone Excise Tax Refund. That money was a one-time refund from the long-distance excise tax that the government stopped collecting last August.

Sex Offender Arrested in Virginia

I know I’ve been a little absent from blogging. It’s that other part of my world that interferes once in awhile. You know, I think we refer to it as real life? :)

Anyway, I saw this and thought of it as a good news bad news story. Good news that the pervert was caught. Bad news that he was even walking the streets in the first place and that he was taken in alive. I’d heard a few days ago that he was considered to be armed and dangerous. I have to admit, that always makes me a little giddy hoping they somehow manage to get shot and killed instead of taken into custody without incidence. Really, think of the tax dollars that could be saved.

It looks like the law is really getting tough:

Mitchell had 14 prior arrests ranging from burglary and bomb threats to lewd and lascivious conduct, police said.

The girl ran away the day a new Florida law took effect making the state’s sex predator penalties some of the toughest in the nation.

The law requires offenders to register e-mail and instant message handles with authorities, information that will be shared with social networking sites like Myspace.com. The state also tripled the maximum sentences to 15 years for soliciting minors for sex and possessing child pornography.

I’d laugh if that wasn’t so completely asinine. Umm… which email addresses and instant message handles are they suppose to register with authorities? I mean, we all know how difficult it is to get MORE THAN ONE!! How is that even enforceable?! Why not change the 15 years to either death or life in prison? This way, we won’t have to worry about their freaking email and IM handles. Seriously, 15 years is considered tough?! Not in my book.

Duncan Hunter: The Right Choice in 2008

duncanhunter.jpgHappy Wednesday everyone. I’m having to go out of town for some meetings today. Therefore, I won’t have access to a computer during the days, but might have time to check my blog in the evenings.

Sam Pierce, from Conservative Common Man, sent an email to me this morning which is worth sharing. Sam and I both wholeheartedly support Duncan Hunter as the GOP Presidential Candidate. Actually, Representative Hunter is going to be in Wyoming this Saturday, and I fully intend to meet him.

Regardless, Sam wrote this piece and I wanted as many people as possible to read it and learn more about Representative Hunter, the ideal conservatives’ candidate:

The 2008 presidential campaign seems to have gotten underway much earlier than I remember any campaign in the past. It is also apparent that the votes cast next November will possibly be as important as any other votes in our entire history. The state of our nation, culture, and security seems to be in serious jeopardy. We as an electorate have an opportunity to play a role in securing the future for our children and grandchildren. We can rise up and cast our votes for the right candidate, not necessarily the one that has the most money or the best name recognition. We can cast our votes for Congressman Duncan Hunter (R. CA.)

At a time when politicians seem more like slick salesmen and shameless panderers than noble leaders, Duncan Hunter is refreshingly different. Instead of testing the air with moistened finger to detect the wind of opinion in front of any given audience, Congressman Hunter has a solid record of championing the issues and values that are indeed vital to our society.

The issue of protecting innocent life is one that Duncan Hunter has always faithfully stood for. Congressman Hunter introduced the Right to Life Act, which would legally define “personhood” as the moment of conception and, therefore, guarantee all constitutional rights and protections, including life, to the unborn. He has also cosponsored the following:

• The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act
• The Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2005
• The Parent’s Right to Know Act of 2005
• The Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act of 2006

Illegal immigration is another issue on which Duncan Hunter has been consistently proactive. As a representative from San Diego he had a double fence built that drastically reduced the smuggling and crime in what had previously been a heavily utilized crossing point. He wrote the legislation to build an additional 800 plus miles of the same type of fence at the border. This legislation was signed into law last year, but Homeland Security is not executing the construction at a reasonable rate. President Hunter would ensure that his fence be built and in a timely manner.

Illegal immigration and our relatively open borders pose a great risk to our national security. Those issues are not separate from our national security as a whole. Our porous border must be inviting to our enemies abroad and those who sympathize with them. Fortunately, in addition to his strong position on border security, Congressman Hunter has the experience to help the nation achieve peace through strength. Duncan Hunter was an Army Ranger in the Vietnam War and is the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee. (His son, a Marine reserve officer, has served in Iraq and is currently deployed in Afghanistan.)

All Americans that have to earn a living should seriously consider where the candidates stand on the issues that affect American jobs. Congressman Hunter’s strong stance against illegal immigration should strike a chord with union members that traditionally support Democrats. These union members might notice that their traditional candidates tend to support open borders and therefore the transfer of jobs from Americans to illegal aliens. American workers would be wise to consider Duncan Hunter’s words regarding the unfair advantage China currently enjoys:

“…America’s one-way-street trade relationship with China and other nations has reduced manufacturing jobs severely in the U.S. I would change the one-way-street into a two-way-street by putting the same charges on foreign goods that they put on ours.”

On education, Congressman Hunter supports returning control of curricula to the states. He also supports school choice in the form of vouchers and tax credits. He is also a proponent of parents controlling the education of their own children via home-schooling.

Duncan Hunter firmly believes in the second amendment of The Constitution, but does not limit his support to hunting. He believes in the right of the citizen to be able to defend him or herself. He believes in protecting the rights of private property owners and in protecting parental rights. He supports a fair tax and a reduction in government spending.

It would be impossible to do justice to Duncan Hunter in the space here so I ask that anyone that would like to learn more please visit www.gohunter08.com and if anyone is inspired to join the grassroots effort to campaign for the Right Choice in 08 please visit www.conservativevaluesinillinois.org. At this critical point in our nation’s history it would be tragic to allow the media and the money to dictate who shall lead us.

Democrats taking undeserved credit?

Say it ain’t so! Well, Wyoming State Representative Monte Olsen spills the beans.

From the Casper Star Tribune:

Editor:

My good friend and colleague Bill Luckett, spokesman for the Wyoming Democratic Party, got a little carried away in the July 21 Casper Star-Tribune (CST) when he said, “Gov. Freudenthal was instrumental in removing the sales tax from food and creating the Hathaway Scholarship program.” This is simply not so.

Primary credit for removing the food tax belongs to Rep. Ann Robinson, with strong support from Sen. John Barrasso. To have some fun, here is what Mr. Luckett wrote when he was a reporter for the CST on July 12, 2005: “One significant difference between New Mexico and Wyoming is that Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal is not a strong supporter of removing the food tax.” Not only was the governor not instrumental in removing the sales tax from food, but Mr. Luckett reported so himself!

Turning to the scholarship, this was brought to Wyoming by Bill Schilling and the Wyoming Business Alliance. Primary credit for the Hathaway Scholarship itself belongs to Rep. Jeff Wasserburger, Sen. Charlie Scott, Rep. Steve Harshman, Sen. Tex Boggs, and Rep. Debbie Hammons. They researched, drafted, pushed, cajoled, carried and voted for the legislation.

The Hathaway Scholarship was a brilliant legislative idea. And to give credit where credit is due, the governor did sign the bill when it hit his desk. But he was not instrumental in it; rather, he caught up to a moving train as it pulled out of the station. Here’s hoping Mr. Luckett stands by his own reporting!

REP. MONTE OLSEN, Daniel

House District 22

I’d expect nothing less from DemonRats.
