Ironic Surrealism II

It is not fear that grips me… only a heightened sense of things.

Viva la cuba! Bastion of freedom, purveyor of human rights.

News from Havana cindy sheenhan

First of all, I have to say right away that the U.S. embargo of Cuba should end—it is antiquated and hypocritical. Cuba is a Communist country and the human rights issues may not be perfect, but China is a Communist country also, that has an atrocious record on human right’s issues. Secondly, BushCo is committing egregious human rights violations right here on Cuban soil, also. Perhaps re-opening relations could shine a spotlight on human rights violations from Washington DC to Havana.

In my opinion, lifting the embargo could only benefit both countries. I would love for as many Americans as possible to visit Cuba and meet the beautiful, wonderful people who live here and an influx of American dollars due to tourism could only help the people of Cuba. There already are many Americans visiting here illegally, one family we met on the plane said they were coming just to say: “up yours” to BushCo. I also do not believe that in a “free country” like ours that our right to travel wherever we like should be impeded.

HEY cindy! News flash! Cubans fleeing their communist homeland are reaching U.S. shores in increasingly large numbers

The more room the better for Americans to illegally visit, your latest communist homeland. Correct?

I was asked if I was worried about being in the country “illegally.” Actually, I am not as worried about that as I am about our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan who are hated and targeted because of Bloody George the Torturer’s inhumane sanctioning of the horrific treatment of prisoners in such places as Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. I am not as worried about being in Cuba illegally as I am about the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan who are caught in the cross hairs of American imperialism which is ruining their countries and killing and maiming their populations.

cindy get’s some old time religion.

Has history been made? Is this the very first sighting of a democratic Babtist? She fits right in. So pious, so devout. [roll eyes] She doesn’t even have enough respect to dress for the occasion. Why should she bother, she probably beat it right out of there as soon as the pic was taken… Doesn’t she seem to be rearing to go? Her choice of photo ops leave a lot to be desired. Disgracefull!

But then again she needed tangible proof that she was traveling with a Church group.

Did Baptists Help Cindy Sheehan Skirt Cuba Embargo? @ Sweetness & Light

Did Cindy Sheehan and her CodePink partners make their trip to Cuba under the cover of religion?

It’s seem very likely that Cindy Sheehan and CodePink are using a “religious license” supplied by the Alliance of Baptists to travel to Cuba illegally.

Because we will be traveling to Cuba without government permission (i.e. a license from the US treasury), CODEPINK participants will be breaking the embargo and therefore subject to civil penalties. (For further questions on the legal implications of unauthorized travel to Cuba, check out www.nlg.org/cuba). With these risks in mind, your participation in our trip is a crucial protest in the growing movement to end the travel ban.

Just what are the travel restrictions?

U.S. citizens are technically allowed to visit Cuba. But unless they are fully employed journalists, academic researchers, government officials or otherwise receive a special license, they are not allowed to spend money on the island. This monetary restriction is, in effect, a travel ban. Those who violate it are subject to up to ten years in prison, a $250,000 criminal fine, and a $50,000 civil penalty. This is quite a drastic punishment for visiting our neighbors and trying to gain a more profound understanding of our world!

Sweetness & Light continues…Via Babalu Blog

CodePink’s flipside, Global Exchange, had previously run trips to Cuba for ten years. However, their most recent tours have been cancelled after “cease and desist” letters from the US Treasury.

Here is the announcement of CodePink’s plans to visit Castro’s paradise last New Year’s:

Instead, we—CODEPINK, Global Exchange, and some of the participants—have already received ominous letters from the Treasury Department, calling on us to “cease and desist” our plans for the trip, demanding the names of all the people who had signed up, and threatening us with a million dollar fine and ten years in jail.

When some individual participants received these letters, they canceled their plans—leaving us without the “safety in numbers.” And while our organizations are willing to fight the government on this (Global Exchange has been fighting the travel restrictions for 15 years!), we feel that right we are too overloaded with other efforts, such as stopping the war in Iraq, to take on a prolonged legal battle right now.

Since they did indeed follow through with their latest jaunt to communist cuba, should we be expecting their arrest upon their return??? I have a DEMAND, as soon as their treasonous feet touch US soil, they should be rounded up taken away!

We demand that the Bush Administration IMMEDIATELY:

• Make public all documentation of torture & abuse.
• Launch an independent investigation & hold those responsible accountable.
• Give all detainees a hearing in U.S. courts.
• Stop the practice of rendition: moving detainees abroad for torture.

Um.. pardon me. I have another DEMAND. Fair is far right? It is simply… STFU! Or find a country regime better suited to your distinct tastes agenda. Okey dokey?

I must add this gem. The one and only comment to cindy’s driveling, as of this post. Kudos “Malcontent” whomever you are! Right on!

A reminder to all of you MMFTETOT (Marxist Moonbats For The Ethical Treatment Of Terrorists) There are distinctions between prisoner of war and war criminal. For example, during WWII an ordinary captured German soldier was considered a prisoner of war. A SS soldier who participated in the death camps was not only a prisoner of war but also a potential war criminal. If evidence of war crime atrocities could be substantiated, he was charged and afforded a trial.

Any lawful foreign combatants (non-US citizens) captured by American forces [anywhere] can be held for as long as we deem necessary?even if that means they die of old age while incarcerated. They are not entitled to a trial or legal representation because they are not criminals but, rather, enemy combatants (POWs/EPWs)

Laws are already in place to cover acts of espionage, sabotage, or terrorism by non-US citizens.

Wives of jailed dissidents urge U.S. activist Sheehan to visit Cuba’s prisons

HAVANA: Wives and mothers of Cuban political prisoners urged U.S. peace activist Cindy Sheehan on Monday to visit the island’s state-run jails during her weeklong trip to Cuba to call for the closure of the U.S.-operated Guantanamo prison.

The Ladies in White, a group of women demanding the release of their loved ones, described what they called “inhumane” conditions at Cuba’s prisons in a letter for Sheehan that was sent to international reporters. The group said it was trying to get a copy to Sheehan as well.

Think she will honor their request? Now, now.. highly unlikely, chalkboard cindy has her hands full (screeching) in defense of the un-deserving.

What I tell ya? sheehan = self serving sycophant

Update: Sheehan Dismisses Appeal From Cuban Dissidents’ Wives

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is ignoring an appeal by wives and mothers of imprisoned Cuban political dissidents for her to visit Cuban prisons during her trip this week to protest the treatment of suspected terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay. Page two

Submitted by Ron Wieder, Jan 10, 2007 07:43

This speaks volumes about the lady’s true motives. Hers is only to cast aspersions about our president and our country. She is really not interested in righting real wrongs. . . .

Are the nominations made public? @ Nobel Prize.org

The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restricts disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, until fifty years have elapsed. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators as well as investigations and opinions in the awarding of a prize.

I have received keys to cities, awards, Congressional Commendations, and a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
