Russia’s Chechnya Imposes Islamic Dress Code
Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov (Ruslan Alkhanov/AFP/Getty Images)
“I know everyone will say, ‘Ramzan declares (rigid Islamic) sharia law‘. But I reply that I am a Muslim, I respect Chechen traditions, and I am proud of this,” Kadyrov, son of a Muslim cleric, told a meeting of local officials.
“I repeat once again—women must either wear head scarves, or they should not work (for state institutions),” he said. “You may say I make unlawful statements, but I will not back down.”
Russian law separates the state from religion and gives both sexes equal rights. But Kadyrov, who this year made a pilgrimage to Muslim holy sites in ultra-conservative Saudi Arabia, said Chechnya had different traditions.
Kadyrov said he had been “literally shocked seeing our young women walking around in T-shirts and miniskirts in our city
A keen amateur boxer who kept a lion as a pet, Kadyrov said women were the root of all crime committed in Chechnya because they were inviting men to have sex with them.

Wow, very disturbing post … who’d ever thought a day would come when we would wish we had the communist were still in power in Russia.

That photo is shocking, isn’t it? Well, I have had a commenter in the blog that was proud of using the niqab and said she was sorry for me! After seeing this photo, I immediately thought about that commenter
That’s why I wrote that … it’s pretty horrible for me to think that instead a normal bikini or swimming-suit is wearing a niqab!

Comrade ‘Has A Soul’ Vlad Putin respects muslims because his Red Army got their beets whacked by OBL in Afghanistan! We flew into Islamabad and transported these islamic guerillas to Andrews AFB so they could get medical treatment and new artificial limbs, and returned them to Pakistan. They told us on the missions, “Gotta to go back to kill more Russians.”
Russkies and Islamomaniacs respect force and military retaliation - period. Russia and the Islamic Caliphate would love to rule the world VH!
And only a few of US get it……

I must say that is quite creepy. Any culture that treats their women as physical property or inferior beings has a lot of growing to do. I definitely don’t condone this but these are old cultures stuck in old ways. Maybe one day they will see the light and find a better way. On the flip side, they see our women dressing indecently and think that is what their ways prevent from happening. You can’t suppress the human spirit.
Well, Ms. Velvethammer, while our views do not always align, your eloquence never lacks and I am certainly with you on this. I find any over-zealous fanaticism, such as that seen in the extremist Islamic world, to be the true terrorism that we must all be wary of. Scary times indeed. We are essentially sleeping with the enemy.
As bad as communism may seem, you’re right: this alternative is definitely not better. Communism is not without merit. I think our government works because it employs pieces of other systems that work. We cannot say that we are complete a democracy, republic, capitalist nation, or anything of the sort. America is great because we are a melting pot of culture and, in most cases, we welcome all. Come as you are…
w3rd. Please excuse my hippy, “kumbaya” rhetoric. ;o)

“Communism is not without merit.”
What that suppose to mean? It means as much as “fascism is not without merit.”what merits did you mean?

Hijab is not a problem for me . Any religious tradition is not problem .All orthodox religions are strict in traditions of some kind. It is normal. If one are not trying to be tolerant to other people’s traditions it is a xenophobia to me. The problem is started when one tradition it trying to be imposed on others. The problems are started when you have to follow tradition under the threat of punishment or even death.
Today only orthodox Islam is imposing its religious traditions on others. Only orthodox Islam trying to export its religion to mom Muslim areas . Only orthodox Islam is punishing for not following its tradition even by death or mutilation. Only orthodox Islam forcing people to follow its tradition.

If a muslim woman wishes to wear a niqab, then so be it. My problem is when they think they should be allowed to wear them in the west. In the west only those who have villainous plans and/or something to hide cover their faces. I am not and will never be comfortable living amongst those who dress in a hiqab. Never.
By God, if someone wants to live in western society, then let everyone see your face! If anyone feels the need to wear a hiqab then live where it is common place. God forbid if burkas/hiqabs ever become more prevalent in the west, terrorists would only have to cover up in one to be able to wreck havoc from an extremely close distance!!!!
On second thought maybe that is part of the plan. Who knows…
Besides it is just creepy. Walking around like some ghastly ghoul wearing what looks like an over exaggeration of a death shroud.

It makes sense to me . Let us say for the sake of the argument that some religion (hypothetically )is require you to be naked. Followers of this religion would claim their right to be naked among others. It would never be allowed to happen in our society . It means that religiously regulated appearance has its limits. So may be fully dressed faceless , masked appearance is another extreme but logically equal to a fully naked body? Both just not expectable in the modern society?
After all when western people are going to Muslim countries they had to dress themselves according to Muslim standard, Ii see no reason why Muslims women cannot follow ( not a Christian but everybody else’s) standard.
I am just afraid that west has no guts to withstand this cultural aggression for the Muslim side.
P.S. Thanks for mentioning my comment , this is my first visit on your blog and i see that you are doing terrific job!:)

There is another thing, VH, and it’s the security consequences. There are a lot of men who had been caught dressed with a Burqa or Niqab (for example the Imam of the Red Mosque in Pakistan and also several terrorists).
But, among all other reasons it is the question, that you can’t identify someone dressed like that. Just think on how many occasions you have to present identification (your driving license, your Social Security number, in my case the Identity Card…): just asking for some money in the bank is impossible, they can’t give you your money because they can’t identify you…
And besides it’s bad for their health. As I told the commenter in my blog, I’m in favour of retiring any Public Health support for this people who dress like that, for problems directly caused by lack of sun, because they like that. Vitamin D, in particular, is necessary for your health and it’s produced when the sunlight gets to your skin. And it’s not the only one: calcium is also produced like that on articulations.
You know, in Spain there are not a lot (yet) dressed like that, but three years ago there were none. And just seeing one of them in July totally covered, makes me sweat even more. I just cannot understand why the women can dress freely like that.
