What an ass! Mahmoud Ahmadinejad President of Iran tries a fast one, only to be shut down! Only a deranged lunatic, such as Ahmadinejad would even dare to put forth such a request. What profound gall! A total affront to America. A direct insult to the 9/11 victims and their families! One could compare his request, to Hitler asking to visit the Holocaust Museum to pay his respects. Well not quite, but you know what I mean…

Iranian Leader Was Denied Ground Zero Visit
An advance team for the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, asked earlier this month that he be allowed to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center site during the opening of the United Nations General Assembly next week, but the request was denied, New York City police officials said today.
Purportedly the denial stems from the construction being done at Ground Zero. Logistics and security being cited as the reasoning. Would there be a differing reaction if it weren’t for construction? Let’s hope not. Will Ahmadinejad decide to pay Ground Zero a visit on his own, without an official escort? The bastard had better not.
But then again…
Iranian president intends to visit Ground Zero
Iranian mission says he’ll go despite NYPD rejection
(New York - WABC, September 19, 2007) - Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad requested to visit Ground Zero during an upcoming trip to New York. That request was rejected Wednesday.
But a source tells Eyewitness News that the decision may not stop him.
A law enforcement source says the Iranian mission to the United Nations has informed the Secret Service that the Iranian president intends to visit Ground Zero Monday at 10 a.m.
@#%$!
Mr. Ahmadinejad is expected to arrive in New York late Sunday, address the United Nations sometime on Monday, and leave the city Wednesday morning, according to police officials.
If I had my way, Ahmadinejad would not even be allowed to step onto our shores.
Also today, Mr. Bollinger said that Mr. Ahmadinejad would speak at the World Leaders Forum, organized by Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs, on Monday. Mr. Bollinger said in a statement:
In order to have such a University-wide forum, we have insisted that a number of conditions be met, first and foremost that President Ahmadinejad agree to divide his time evenly between delivering remarks and responding to audience questions. I also wanted to be sure the Iranians understood that I would myself introduce the event with a series of sharp challenges to the President on issues including:
# the Iranian President’s denial of the Holocaust;
# his public call for the destruction of the state of Israel;
# his reported support for international terrorism that targets innocent civilians and American troops;
# Iran’s pursuit of nuclear ambitions in opposition to international sanction;
# his government’s widely documented suppression of civil society and particularly of women’s rights; and
# his government’s imprisoning of journalists and scholars, including one of Columbia own alumni, Dr. Kian Tajbakhsh.
Such hard hitting questions for such a peaceful regime. How unfair. /sarc

I would also like to invoke a major theme in the development of freedom of speech as a central value in our society. It should never be thought that merely to listen to ideas we deplore in any way implies our endorsement of those ideas, or the weakness of our resolve to resist those ideas, or our naiveté about the very real dangers inherent in such ideas. It is a critical premise of freedom of speech that we do not honor the dishonorable when we open the public forum to their voices. To hold otherwise would make vigorous debate impossible.
Free speech? Columbia is of course a huge supporter of ‘free speech‘
From the ‘Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations New York‘.
As a founding member of the United Nations, Iran believes deeply in the ideals of the organization and the purposes and principles of its Charter. The United Nations is the sole universal organization with the capacity to address issues of fundamental importance to the entire human family and move us all closer to a new global paradigm of understanding, sympathy, dialogue, cooperation and partnership.
Nothing like covering up the stench of bull sh*t & hypocrisy with flowery statements. [roll eyes]
Menaces that today threaten the international community are complex and varied. Yet all of them ranging from drugs, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, to injustice, poverty and environmental degradation have one common ingredient. They recognize no boundaries of geography, power or affluence. They affect us all.
Is Mohammad Khazaee’s welcome message an honest assessment of Iran? Not hardly. Iran is rife with injustice and human rights atrocities.
By the way, nearly a year ago to the day, Columbia rescinded an invitation to Ahmadinejad

Israeli UN ambassador implores U.S. prevent Ahmadinejad’s UN visit
UN Ambassador Dan Gillerman has urged the U.S. administration to deny the participation of Ahmadinejad in the opening session of the United Nations 62nd General Assembly next week in New York City.“This is the head of a country that has called for the destruction of a fellow-member of the UN,” Gillerman said. “Since Ahmadinejad’s appearence at the General Assembly last year, proof has gathered that Iran is assisting extremists in Iraq to kill American soldiers.”
The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations is planning a protest against Ahmadinejad in front of UN headquarters. Conference Vice Chairman Malcolm Honlein called Ahmadinejad’s appearence “a negative message to the world.
Iran’s Ahmadinejad Prepares for Trip to US
Our message to the American nation is a message of peace, friendship, brotherhood and respect for humans,” the agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in on the state-owned Jame Jam satellite TV channel late Sunday.
In a pigs eye.
If you are able to join the collective screw you protest (my words not Pamela’s) of Ahmadinejad being organized by Pamela of Atlas shrugs. Do so!
