The not-so-simple story of Barack Obama’s youth

More than 40 interviews with former classmates, teachers, friends and neighbors in his childhood homes of Hawaii and Indonesia, as well as a review of public records, show the arc of Obama’s personal journey took him to places and situations far removed from the experience of most Americans.
At the same time, several of his oft-recited stories may not have happened in the way he has recounted them. Some seem to make Obama look better in the retelling, others appear to exaggerate his outward struggles over issues of race, or simply skim over some of the most painful, private moments of his life.
Obama’s mom: Not just a girl from Kansas

Her parents, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham — he was a boisterous, itinerant furniture salesman in downtown Seattle, she worked for a bank and was the quiet yet firm influence at home — moved to Mercer Island in 1956, after one year in a Seattle apartment. The lure was the high school that had just opened and the opportunity it offered for their daughter, who was then 13.
In a recent interview, Obama called his mother “the dominant figure in my formative years. . . . The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics.”
At Mercer High School, two teachers — Val Foubert and Jim Wichterman — generated regular parental thunderstorms by teaching their students to challenge societal norms and question all manner of authority. Foubert, who died recently, taught English. His texts were cutting edge: “Atlas Shrugged,” “The Organization Man,” “The Hidden Persuaders,” “1984″ and the acerbic writings of H.L. Mencken.
Wichterman taught philosophy. The hallway between the two classes was known as “anarchy alley,” and students pondered the challenging notions of Wichterman’s teachings, including such philosophers as Sartre and Kierkegaard. He also touched the societal third rail of the 1950s: He questioned the existence of God. And he didn’t stop there.
“I had them read ‘The Communist Manifesto,’ and the parents went nuts,” said Wichterman,

Parental objections didn’t matter. For Stanley Ann, her new relationship with Barack Obama and weekend discussions seemed to be, in part, a logical extension of long coffeehouse sessions in Seattle and the teachings of Wichterman and Foubert. The forum now involved graduate students from the University of Hawaii. They spent weekends listening to jazz, drinking beer and debating politics and world affairs.

Obama’s Grandma Keeps Him in Touch With His African Roots
Kogelo, Kenya - Sarah Obama is a typical African grandma, still out in her field every day, tilling and hoeing and selling her crops in a nearby market - even at 85-years-old.
While appearances show her to be just like everyone else, Sarah is a celebrity in this tiny village in western Kenya, not least because her grandson may become the next US president.
Note: Sarah Obama is NOT related to Obama by blood. She is his step-grandmother.

‘Certainly the older brother’
The way Barack Obama describes his oldest half-brother in his book, Abongo (Roy) Obama inherited their father’s hard-drinking ways but straightened his life out by embracing Islam and his African heritage.
An accountant, Abongo Obama also argued that the black man must “liberate himself from the poisoning influences of European culture,” Obama wrote. “But the magic of his laughter remains, and we can disagree without rancor.”

She went on to marry Lolo Soetoro, another foreign student, and moved to his native Indonesia with six-year-old Barack in 1967, after the new dictator Suharto summoned the country’s citizens home.
Soetoro became a government relations consultant with a big US oil company. “He changed when he came back to Indonesia,” Suryakusuma recalled. “Men can be a certain way when they are in the West and when they come back they are sucked into their own culture.”
Obama’s African family is particularly complicated. By his own account, his father never really left Kezia, his first wife, in Kenya. She bore Obama Sr two children, Roy and Auma, who now works in social services in Berkshire.
They were separated, Obama’s mother claimed, but “it was a village wedding and there was no document that could suggest a divorce”.
His own father and mother’s wedding in Hawaii may not have been properly documented either. “How and when the marriage occurred remains a bit murky, a bill of particulars that I have never quite had the courage to explore,” Obama writes in his memoir.
After his father left Ann and two-year-old Barack to study at Harvard, he went to Africa with another American woman, Ruth, who became his third wife. She bore him two sons in Kenya, one of whom died in a motorcycle accident, but Obama Sr continued to see Kezia.
“Traditionally, she was still his wife,” a relative explained. Kezia went on to bear two more sons, Abo and Bernard. Although their paternity is disputed by some relatives, Obama Sr regarded them as his own. Later in life, he fathered another son, George, by a young Kenyan woman.
After his parents split up, Obama saw his father only once before learning that he had died in a car crash in Kenya in 1982.

Hillary got voted out by the so-called Democratic Party. It’s somehow a blessing in disguise. It is not the Democratic Party of JFK anymore, anyway.
Communist and Socialist groups now have invaded America. The connections of these groups are tricky because they are based on the “Fusion Theory” of Michael Harrington of New Party, a Chicago based party of Obama in 1996 who gave him his first election win. That’s why Obama is returning to his own roots.
Communist Party of USA, Democratic Socialists of America, Progressive Movement, Progressive Alliance, ACLU, CODEPINK, the Working Families Party, AFL-CIO, ACORN, AAAN, MoveOn, RAINBOW/PUSH, Progressive Women, and so on. They are all Anti-War and champion of Civil Liberties. Many in these groups believe that Arabs and Blacks are the most deprived people in America. Obama partly helped the establishment of AAAN of Khalidi.
After the fall of Communism in 1991, the communists and socialists have reinvented themselves and they now become champions of Anti-War, anti-racism and pro-immigrants, freedom of religion (including no religion), pro-labor, pro-poor, pro-welfare state, and anti- US soldiers.
Many of these people were part of that Anti-War Movement led by UN NGOs in late 2001. They spread “half-truths” around the world, the gospel of pacifism, against Bush Administration. But, the collateral damage of such action is America as a whole. Treason but no one wanted to admit. Bush shall go Den Haag for war crimes… that’s their spirit. These people have succeeded so many ways. The new brand of communists have successfully gotten the sympathy of the people and made the people hate their own Government. They made the Nation believe that Americans lost its moral grounds.
After destroying the original principles of Democratic Party and put their own ideologies as cornerstone of this Party…. there is only step to complete the victory….Marginalize the Republican Party by winning 2008 Election by November.
If unopposed, Obama’s win will declare victory of Communist Party and start of a new American Socialist Era.
Thanks to fate… Hillary is free now from these groups. She can start anew. She is a Senator and a fighter herself.
The fate of American Future now is in hands of unlikely group of people: Jews and Christians rejecting evil Lies of Obama, the Hillary die-hards and McCain supporters removing barriers of party and stand as one. If they do not join together and consolidate, Communist America will be born.
This election is not about war or economy, as the Socialists are trying to make Americans believe, it is about the birth of new Socialist America.
I hope Hillary Fans call on Pres. Clinton and speak out the truth about the Far Left. In the past, despite Hillary’s win in NY, I felt uncomfortable on what could be seen from the former party of JFK, Franklin Roosevelt and Truman. Communists and socialists were beginning to expand their bases within the part. Now, it’s definitely not that legendary party anymore.
When John McCain wins, that impostor Party that shamed Hillary will be disoriented. I hope Hillary and Bill start rebuild the Democratic Party again based on its original principles. Cleanse the Party and reinstall its Patriotism.
The Republican Party needs Democratic Party of old. They’re like Yin and Yang. One needs another to strengthen America again. It’s too early for America to fall. There are still many battles for Freedom to win. Monroe Doctrine as expanded by JFK said it all why America has to rebuild new democratic culture in Middle East.
The beauty of the two old parties, despite their flaws, arguing but respecting each other… that is the missing ingredient why America is weak today.
Not the policy of Pacifism, Treason, Socialism and Control all embodied in the idealogy of a man I still do not know if Black or White.
But America built together by Democrats and Republicans alike. In that day, I will return to Democratic Party.

He really is a “MULATO” That is the term the Spanish sailors used then a white man fathered a slaves child. If he fathered the child of an Indian the offspring is a “MESTIZO”

We don’t use these words. We have such few words to describe race. It would almost be taboo to use them. But in Spanish they are very comun and better describe a person’s mixed culture

Yes, Velvet Hammer did quote “out of context” as you say but the issue is not resolved by your more inclusive quote. One major issue with Senator Obama is his focus on race in his life, his wife’s focus on race, his fmr pastor #1’s total preoccupation with race, his fmr pastor #2’s preoccupation with race, (and people like Farrakhan and Pfleger who are tangentially connected who are also completely preoccupied by race).
His books support this even if you have shown some evidence that he rejects the more violent approach. That doesn’t mean he isn’t racist, merely that he may not be a violent racist. The books are rife with passages that show a preoccupation with race. He associated with the more “aggressive and political blacks” in college to avoid looking like a sell-out. What? Why? I suppose my black friends are sell-outs because they are my friends under his logic. I’m too-damn-white to befriend without someone selling-out I suppose. Or maybe I’m “a typical white person” as per Senator Obama’s recent description of his grandmother.
Consider also that Senator Obama lauds Malcolm and DuBois in his book (yes he gives a not to MLK as well). Both were aggressive, pro-violence (in certain settings) racists. This is not unlike pastor #1, #2, Pfleger, and Farrakhan. Does he spend much time talking about how Booker T. Washington influenced him to make a difference in this world or how God or Jesus want him to reach out and heal divides? No, he selects the more radical Malcolm to focus on .
Ironically, Booker T. Washington was considered a sell-out by DuBois and Malcolm in some of their private writings. Does Obama feel the same? That goes back to the bigger issue here…is Senator Obama a racist and should we elect a POTUS who is a racist?
Senator Obama was raised by a white family and lived a priveleged life. He went to the best schools and had opportunities most of us can only dream about. I can understand if he grew up in the ghetto and kids picked on him daily for being half-white. But he didn’t. He spend time in Indonesia and Hawaii—both are multicultural places where his ethnicity wouldn’t be slammed. He was surrounded with loving “white” people who were his family. His father saw him one more time after age 2 before he died and yet somehow the man that was never there inspired “dreams of my father.” Perhaps dreams of an idealized father, not the actual father who had multiple wives and many children and clearly didn’t do right by his gifted son.
Whatever Senator Obama’s reasons and however understandable the apparent racism may be, the trend seems very clear and should we elect someone who is preoccupied with race to the office of the President? Colin Powell hasn’t spent years focused on his race but rather serving this country. Thomas Sowell wasn’t worried about being too black in the white establishment—he got a PhD and now educates the old fogey “white” conservatives in “their” idealogy. Yet there’s no big race discussion about Buckeley/Reagan/etc philosophy being disseminated by a multicultural front these days (D’Souza, Sowell, and others). Why? because they aren’t racists and most of the bitter gun/bible clinging conservatives (i.e. their audience) aren’t racists either. Even those that are would vote for someone who espouses sound ideas, not just platitudes. So perhaps it’s less a question of racism for them and more one of culture.
I do not think the POTUS should be worried about race. Is that naive or is that wise? Aren’t we all children of God and aren’t the troubles that face us universal? Education, the economy, and healthcare are universal problems and solutions to these things are colorblind. For all of Obama’s community organizing to help minorities there are still lots of dilapidated housing projects in southside Chicago. Injecting race into good deeds does not make them better; in fact it may frustrate the very purposes of those deeds. It’s poison to those it seeks to help and those offering the help.
I do not surround myself with current and former KKK members as friends or investors in my life and affairs. My wife, nor my mother, would eat lunch with Mrs. David Duke (contrast to Mrs. Obama eating lunch with Mrs. James Meeks and Mrs. Farrakhan and smiling in a photograph with them). Why then should Senator Obama get a free pass? We cannot undo the wrongs of the past by ignoring the wrongs in the present.
I would like to hear someone explain Senator Obama’s connections, his words in print, and his words in audio as not being racist. I see a very consistent pattern of evidence. If I’m wrong in this interpretation I’d like to be set straight. Help me make sense of this if it isn’t what it appears to be.
