I’ve been meaning to write this for a couple days, but in case you missed the news, here it is!GOP Presidential candidates Fred Thompson, Sen. Sam Brownback (KS), and Reps. Duncan Hunter (CA) and Ron Paul (TX) have confirmed that they will be appearing in the duel WYGOP Presidential forums in Casper and Riverton on the 29th of this month. Not appearing will be Sen. John McCain (AZ) and former Govs. Mitt Romney (MA) and Mike Huckabee (AR) .
Confirmations from Rep. Tom Tancredo (CO) and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (NY) were still pending as of Sept. 14.
The first forum will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at Casper College’s Erickson Thunderbird Gym. The second event with the same format will be at 5 p.m. the same day at Central Wyoming College in Riverton.
Speeches by the candidates will lead off both meetings, followed by questions from Republican precinct committee members.
The precinct people, who will be credentialed before each event, will have reserved seating.
The public is invited to attend either or both forums, the GOP said.
The Wyoming Republican Party Central Committee earlier moved up the GOP county conventions to Jan. 5 in an attempt to entice Republican candidates to visit the state and give Wyoming a role in the national selection process.
On that date, the 23 county conventions will choose voting delegates committed to specific candidates.
Preceding the 5 PM Riverton event, there will be a $10 per plate Chuckwagon Dinner to raise funds for the Fremont County Republican Party.
The press release on the state and Fremont County GOP websites states that both colleges are gearing up for an influx of national media attention and possible secret service security.
The public invitation to attend either or both venues is to allow for the opportunity of an up close and personal “once in a lifetime” experience. Further information on the Wyoming Presidential Forums will be released as the countdown continues. The Wyoming GOP encourages voters to visit with their local GOP leaders. Appropriate contact information can be obtained through the Wyoming Republican Party.
In addition to the at least four candidates appearing in Riverton, the editor and publisher of this blog plans to be in attendance.
