Right to Life of Wyoming Pledges to Keep Gary Trauner Out of Congress

Cheyenne, WY — Former congressional candidate Gary Trauner is expected to announce on Monday that he is launching a new bid to challenge Rep. Barbara Cubin in 2008.

Right to Life of Wyoming, and its parent organization National Right to Life, played a key role in organizing tens of thousands of pro-life Wyoming residents to vote for Cubin and against Trauner in 2006. With mailings and phone calls across the state, the groups helped Cubin defeat Trauner by a small margin of victory.

Right to Life of Wyoming president Steven Ertelt said the pro-life group will be back in 2008 to ensure that Trauner doesn’t get a ticket to Washington.

“Gary Trauner claims to be a moderate voice for the people of Wyoming but he would quickly display his extreme pro-abortion views if elected to Congress,” Ertelt said.

“Trauner would join his colleagues from California and New York in trying to force Wyoming residents to pay for abortions with our tax dollars,” Ertelt added. “Fortunately, Barbara Cubin has protected us for years from funding the abortion industry.”

Ertelt referred to bills and amendments sponsored by leading pro-abortion members of Congress that would overturn various policies that prevent forcing taxpayers to fund abortions in other countries, in the District of Columbia and on military base hospitals.

The Right to Life of Wyoming president also said Cubin has been effective in voting for common-sense bills that place reasonable limits on abortion.

“Barbara Cubin has backed measures that have strong support in Wyoming such as a ban on partial-birth abortions, making sure parents can be involved in the abortion decisions of their teenage daughters, and protecting pregnant women who are victims of violence,” Ertelt said.

“On abortion and bioethics issues, Barbara Cubin already is a moderate voice whereas Trauner would vote for abortion at every turn,” Ertelt concluded.
