Jan. 5, 2008
Half the Wyoming delegates for the RNC in September have been chosen. In Park County, the delegate voted on was an alternate, meaning that if a delegate has to be absent from the floor, someone can fill in.
The votes went as follows:
First Round:
- Paul: 5
- Giuliani: 8
- Romney: 19
- Hunter: 10
- Thompson: 8
Second round (Ron Paul removed by last place)
- Giuliani: 7
- Romney: 21
- Hunter: 12
- Thompson: 7
By rule, the Giuliani and Thompson delegates were removed from the third round, and then the delegate for Hunter withdrew, which was approved on a majority vote of the voting floor delegation. The Alternate delegate was awarded for Mitt Romney.
There was then a preference poll taken. 50%+1 majority needed to win.
Round 1:
- Giuliani: 4
- Huckabee: 10
- Hunter: 13
- McCain: 2
- Paul: 4
- Romney: 11
- Thompson: 3
McCain was removed for the second round:
- Giuliani: 4
- Huckabee: 11
- Hunter: 14
- Paul: 3
- Romney: 15
- Thompson: 0
For the third round, Thompson and Paul were removed, and on majority approval, the top three were advanced:
- Huckabee: 13
- Hunter: 18
- Romney: 16
Huckabee was dropped for the final round:
- Hunter: 26
- Romeny: 20
How I Voted:
Yes, I got to participate, and I was very honored. I was n alternate, but was promoted to full delegate to represent my precinct since no one else was present.
What you need to know is that Rep. Colin Simpson was the delegate for Duncan Hunter.
Here in Park County, we were actually treated to a Presidential Canidate visit by Rep. Hunter in New Hampshire, via a live cell phone call made by Rep. Simpson, because he wanted us to hear from Rep. Hunter himself. That was a wonderful treat! Rep. Hunter actually did not campaign hard in Iowa because he figured that there was not a real chance there due to the hype that Iowa gets. But he has not given up.
I voted in each vote for Colin Simpson, though I did vote to approve his withdraw from the last round. I also voted for Rep. Hunter in each preference poll.
This truly is an exciting time in Wyoming and national politics. I foresee a wide-open GOP campaign in the days and months ahead.
More details on what happened here in Wyoming forthcoming later…

Eric, thanks for carrying the blogging water for Wyoming Republicans!!! I’ve got more stuff to blog about, but I need to chat with a friend on how the voting went on the platforms and resolutions that I missed.
Maybe by the next county convention I’ll have a laptop

Or you could just text me the happenings. That would have worked as well.

Sorry we were snippy yesterday Eric.
You didn’t mess anything up. We would have live blogged, but the state was already decided by the time that we realized we had an internet signal.

So Park county turned out to be the smartest county in the state — voting for Hunter! Good Job!

Well, we kinda voted for Hunter; our delegate is for Romney; the preference election (conducted after the delegate selection) was for Hunter. I still haven’t seen which county voted for the Hunter delegate.

Eric, Mrs. C. is right. Even the regional media (newspaper and TV alike) screwed up and called it a caucus. I am so miffed about it, I am very seriously contemplating attempting to be a first-time caller on a very prominent national radio talk show tomorrow.
Anywho, I had not thought about txting until you mentioned it.
