Numbers, Numbers, Numbers!!!

That’s precisely why Wyoming should have gotten more attention from the press yesterday.
Now, you might be asking what I mean by that, and I’m glad you are. Yes, Wyoming is strongly Republican and in fact, the least-populated state in the union. Not many are aware just how great Wyoming is because they judge us solely on what the geography of the eastern half of the state looks like (wide open and barren), but then they marvel at the grandeur of Yellowstone and forget that it is mostly in Wyoming.
Nevertheless, let’s look at some interesting facets of the first few days of the nomination process, shall we?
- Iowa is still one of the most over-rated states in the selection process. They have a first-in-the-nation caucus and everyone runs around like something marvelous happened. The dirty little secret that the corn farmers don’t want you to know is that the caucus is in no way, shape, matter, or form binding upon the delegates that they choose in their county conventions later on. It’s not much more than a “straw poll,” seeing what the current preference of the caucus-goers is. Therefore, Huckabee and Obama may not win the delegates of Iowa.
- New Hampshire has 24 delegates for the Republican National Convention. In their primaries on Tuesday, New Hampshirites will cast their votes for their presidential preference and then the corresponding delegates will be awarded. Because New Hampshire is violating the “Law of February 5,” half of their delegates will not be permitted to vote in the September nomination, resulting in 12 delegates for New Hampshire Republicans.
- Wyoming, that state that had Republican COUNTY CONVENTIONS yesterday, has 28 delegates to the national convention. Like New Hampshire, Wyoming is in violation of the Feb. 5 rule, and thus half of the delegates are barred from voting later this year. That leaves us with 14 delegates, two more than New Hampshire!!!
Like I said, it’s all about numbers…
Sending out some link love to fellow Wyomingite Conservabloggers, Tieki Rae and Mrs. C.

I was a typically slow online Wyoming Republican last week, so my corner of Conservablogs hasn’t been upgraded yet. However, what I have seen of the comment luv thingy it is pretty groovy.
Which reminds me, I need to e-mail the news director for the radio station and remind her that the big event Saturday was the Republican County Convention, not caucus. I’m going to go insane if I hear one more thing about “yesterday’s Wyoming caucuses.”
