Will Wyoming Republicans Be Excited?

Some interesting recent happenings with Wyoming Republicans:

  • Over the weekend, Wyoming’s retiring U.S. Representative received the Sheridan County GOP’s Better World Award. In accepting the award, she gave the reluctant McCain endorsement, criticized both Democrat Presidential contenders, and encouraged support for former State Treasurer Cynthia Lummis in her campaign to be the Wyoming Republican nominee for U.S. House. One wonders why she didn’t choose Mark Gordon. Rep. Cubin noted that it is important for Wyoming Republicans to show up this fall and counter the enthusiasm on the Democrat side.
  • Speaking of Mark Gordon, the most recent Republican U.S. House candidate, recently stopped in Jackson Hole and campaigned on his usual “bring the Republican Party back to its roots” platform. The article didn’t mention it, but some would wonder if he met with Gary Trauner (D-WY) while he was in town :-O
  • While Rep. Cubin was receiving her award in Sheridan, on this side of the Big Horns, Big Horn County Republicans (and a few legal impostors from Park County) socialized and dined in Lovell.  Also there were Republican U.S. House candidates Bill Winney and State Rep. Dan Zwonitzer, and Jennie Gordon representing her husband, and Annaliese Wiederspahn for her mom, Cynthia Lummis. U.S. House Candidate Swede Nelson was supposed to be there, but he couldn’t motivate his car to work. More on this event in a separate forthcoming post.
  • Monday night, the aforementioned U.S. House Candidate, Bill Winney stopped in Cody with his wife for a meet-and-greet at the VFW. Free hot dogs were served (and not the itty-bitty ones either), so being a good Baptist, I attended. The event was not a hugely attended one, but it did provide for a nice informal conversation with the Republican candidate. He talked about small government Republican values, the need to somehow secure the boarder, his distrust of the thought process behind man-caused global climate change, bureaucracy as related to energy policy and public education, and the need to stay in Iraq if we are to win.

Hi, I interviewed Gordon as well for the Planet. It’s a Q&A, more detail and tougher questions. It’s linked on the homepage. Thanks.

Mary! Thanks for stopping in and noting your interview with Mark Gordon. You covered some of my favorite issues, and I’m glad that you had the opportunity to talk with him and share with the people of Jackson Hole and Wyoming.
