U.S. House Race, 1st Quarter (R-WY, A.L.)

Some surprises to talk about in the WYGOP Congressional Primary at the end of the first quarter.

  • He was one of the first to sign on, and he’s one of the first to call it quits. Motivational speaker Swede Nelson seems to have lost his motivation to run to be Wyoming’s vote.
  • Bill Winney was shockingly short of funds raised this quarter. After being a candidate in 2006, one would have figured that he would have faired out better than third, but that’s where he is.
  • Mark Gordon has name recognition because he is running an ad blitz. He is running an ad blitz because he can. Now people know who he is, and gradually, they are learning where some of that wealth has gone in the past. I wonder if Gary Trauner will return the favor to Mark Gordon this year…
  • Excluding his own 300 Grand, Mark Gordon has received right around $38,000 from Wyoming residents, leaving just over 60% from out of staters. Not that out of state contributions are inherently evil, I just think you should get more money from your potential constituents.
  • Cynthia Lummis has been gifted by some noted Wyomingites:
    • Two-time Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ray Hunkins donated $1,000
    • State Senator Grant Larson donated the maximum allowed
    • Kate Mead, granddaughter of former Governor and Senator Clifford Hansen, and cousin of last summer’s Senatorial candidate, Matt Mead, gave the maximum
    • WYGOP Activist and co-finalist in last summer’s Senatorial appointment process Tom Sansonetti donated the maximum amount
    • Fellow Senatorial candidate from last summer Clark Stith  donated $500
  • Four people with the last name Zwonitzer donated to the Zwonitzer campaign.
  • In a positive development, Cody lawyer Steve Simonton did not donate to Gary Trauner this quarter.
