Cubin: Donation Concern Legitimate

Natrona County GOP Chairman Bill Cubin has addressed the concerns of many Republicans across the state concerning Mark Gordon. While he did not encourage not supporting Mr. Gordon, he did support the groundswell of concern over information about his past donations.

Specifically, he was addressing a flier that has found its way into many mailboxes across the Cowboy State. I have not received this flier, but you can see it on the Natrona County GOP website. Many are concerned because it is not exactly known who is behind the distribution of the flier.

Here is what Mr. Cubin had to say about the fairness of the flier and it’s contents:

The message was that Mark Gordon is a RINO because he gave thousands of dollars to Kathy Karpan, John Kerry, Ted Ladd, Gary Trauner, the DNC, and the Sierra Club over the last decade. A quick check of the FEC web site confirms Mr. Gordon did indeed make all of the contributions to Democrats, the Democratic Party and Democrat leaning organizations. Those basic facts cannot be disputed.

That is relevant information for Republicans when they decide who they are going to vote for in August. Airing those facts by anybody – a campaign or a private citizen – is a legitimate thing to do. It goes right to the heart of Mr. Gordon’s political philosophy. Actions speak louder than words. […]

It would be hard to criticize a campaign for openly exposing this, but easy to criticize one who did it in this manner.  That’s why I think that the serious campaigns in this race are not responsible.  It doesn’t make sense for them to do it in this manner.  However, this is one facet that we will probably never know.

Honestly, I think the question of who did it is entirely unimportant.  We can speculate about that forever.

I have to admit, the Karpan donation was a surprise for me to learn about, but I do believe the Chairman of the Natrona County GOP handled the situation well
