President Saddles Congress With High Gas Prices

For several weeks, President Bush has been urging Congress to authorize offshore drilling. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi see politically destroying the President’s advisers as a more pressing matter.

In a statement from the Rose Garden, the President lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling and effectively left the responsibility for high gas prices in the hands of the House and Senate which are both currently led by Democrats.

Over one million Americans of all political stripes have signed an online petition urging Congress to open the outer continental shelf and ANWR to drilling.

Sen. McCain, Republican Presidential nominee in waiting, supports offshore drilling, an issue that has eased concerns of the conservative base that he has frustrated over the past several years. Sen. Obama, Democrat Presidential nominee in waiting, supports keeping the ban in force.

In an effort to move Sen. McCain further to the right on the energy issue, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) has invited Sen. McCain to visit ANWR.

Sens. Barrasso and Enzi and Congressional candidate Cynthia Lummis, all of whom are endorsed by this individual, are supportive of energy independence.
