Park County Voters: Set Your VCR’s

…or your DVR’s for those of you that are far more technologically advanced than I am. You may recall that I recently posted about some upcoming forums here in Park County. I believe that it is important for you to be there and I want you to be. However, there is a conflict of interest of sorts on August 4th, the night of the Cody City Council and Park County Commissioners debates. And it takes place on Wyoming PBS.

The debates, sponsored by Wyoming PBS, Wyoming Public Radio and the Wyoming Business Report, feature contested primary races for the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives seats from Wyoming.

THE FIRST DEBATE, at 7 p.m., features four Republican candidates for Wyoming’s sole House seat, which is open due to Rep. Barbara Cubin’s decision not to seek reelection. The candidates include Mark Gordon of Buffalo, Mike Holland of Green River, Cynthia Lummis of Cheyenne, and Bill Winney of Bondurant.

THE SECOND DEBATE, at 8 p.m., features two Democratic Party candidates for the unexpired term of the late Sen. Craig Thomas, currently held by appointee Sen. John Barrasso (R-Casper). The debaters are Keith Goodenough of Casper and Nick Carter of Gillette.

THE THIRD DEBATE at 8:30 p.m. is between two Democrats vying to run against Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Gillette), who is seeking reelection to his third term. The candidates are Chris Rothfuss of Laramie, and Al Hamburg of Torrington.

The debates will be broadcast live on television and radio, and will repeat Friday Aug. 8 at 9 p.m. and Sunday Aug. 17 at 5 p.m.

The highlight here is of course the first debate featuring the four Republican Congressional candidates. I havce no idea where this is going to be held. Traditionally, they are in at the college in Riverton, but WPR is located in Laramie and the Wyoming Business report is in Cheyenne. At any rate, wherever it is, I’ll be cheering for Cynthia Lummis when I watch it on tape later on.
