A Letter from Cynthia Lummis

Dear Friends,

I believe the family is the fundamental building block of our country; the family must be at the center of policy decision making in the United States. Simply put, strong, cohesive families, make a strong and cohesive America.

Our culture is under constant pressure by those on the secular left to banish religion and prayer, and in many cases Christianity alone, from the public square. In addition, what is covered in our media and shown on TV and movies frequently undermines the values we as parents and patriots are trying to instill in our children. I oppose the erosion of our culture and would do my part to fight it.

I am a social conservative and would vote like a social conservative as a member of Congress.

Traditional Marriage:

  • I believe that God defined marriage as between one man and one woman.
  • I support traditional marriage and oppose alternative definitions of marriage; I oppose recognizing any other definition of marriage.

Abortion

  • I believe abortion is a sin against God.
  • As a legislator, I voted for Wyoming’s parental consent law.
  • I oppose the repeal of the federal ban on partial birth abortion.
  • I oppose federal funding of abortion.
  • I oppose codifying the principles of Roe v. Wade into federal law.

Home Schooling

  • I support the right of home schoolers to teach their children without government interference.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Human Cloning

  • I oppose federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
  • I oppose human cloning.

As a member of Congress, I will rely on friends across Wyoming, to counsel me on issues that are not at the forefront of the public’s attention right now.

God Bless,

Cynthia M. Lummis
