The Storm Not Being Watched: Hurricane Palin

Yup, Gustav did good at shutting down one day of political pep rallying in St. Paul, but the experts (especially those on the left) were once again stunned that Gustav didn’t turn into Katrina 2. FEMA was there; Bush is still in office; New Orleans even still has the same “School Bus” Mayor, but one small, yet significant element changed and that was the Governor, who now happens to be young, energetic, and a Republican.

When the storm approached the coast of Louisiana and realized that there was no hope of mass devistation, it just sorta died down, and the Democrats’ jaws dropped, knowing they had no way to pin this storm on the Republicans. The GOP toned down the partisanship at what was to be a political rally (though First Lady Bush did note all the Gulf Coast Governors were Republicans) and the storm decreased by two categories before it made landfall, and of course the further inland it went, the weaker it would get because that’s what storms like this do. But have no fear Hanna and Ike were brewing.

While the media has been keeping us all posted on these storms, in hopes of pinning something about natural disasters on Republicans (as though WE can control them). One thought that occurred to me while watching the live feed on Dish Network is that there were a lot of forest fires going on in the West during the Democrat Convention, which ironically took place in the West. Did the Democrats give any props to the firefighters last week? Did they mention how much all these places that had to endure thick clouds of smoke and falling ash were in there thoughts and prayers, at the very least their thoughts? Did they mention how you can help out wildland firefighters and their families? I sure didn’t hear anything. So, as much as I didn’t like the toned down opening day of the convention (especially since my other favorite woman running for office got dropped from the schedule), I believe the GOP still comes out on top.

I had the pleasure of listening to much of Sen. Fred Thompson’s speech last night. I was amazed that the crowd was jazzed, chanting “USA! USA! USA!” and laughing at the political humor of the former Tennessee Senator’s humor. I even found my self cheering as I ate lunch (dinner) in my car.

I got home and found a couple of new posts by Roxanne on Haemet talking about all the pro-Palin posts out there. The second post particularly caught my eye, since it mentioned an article pertinent to Wyoming:

Tom Liddy of Arizona, the son of G. Gordon Liddy, said that he was whipping the convention’s rules committee, filled with veterans of Republican National Conventions, “There were tears coming down their eyes,” he said. “One woman from Wyoming said, ‘We didn’t know John McCain cared about us.’”

I have to admit that I was momentarily disheartened at the news of Gov. Palin’s daughter, and the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve realized that the liberals HATE Gov. Palin, so much so they have to go after her family in an attempt to discredit her.

Cynthia Lummis noted on KODI’s Speak Your Piece yesterday that Gov. Palin was being attacked for having a typical American family. How true that is. Is Bristol Palin the first 17 year old to get pregnant? The way the liberals are going after her through her mom, you would sure think so. While I disagree with young Bristol’s choices that got her where she is today, I do support her choices going forward, carrying the baby to term and marrrying the father. Even James Dobson, who months ago pledged he would not vote for John McCain, offered prayer-filled support for the Palins, this just days after he said he’d vote for McCain/Palin.

So let the media give all kinds of attention to whatever tropical storm or almost hurricane; If they think Bristol Palin and her younger brother Trig are issues, let them “discuss” them. WE are fine with Bristol and Trig. They have a loving mother and father, and as far as I can tell, a pretty neat family. It must have been a hard choice for the Governor we all love: saddle the pregnant daughter with a life of guilt by not accepting Sen. McCain’s nomination, or go for the gold and remind them that Bristol is not the nominee?

Gov. Palin’s resume is one of overcoming difficulties and hardships. This is the latest one and because of the network of support she has across this great nation, she’ll get through it just fine. Let the media and lefyty bloggers continue to fire cheap shots at the Palins. They’ve got a lot of defenders in the base of the Republican Party. There’s one more storm out there that’s going to catch them off guard, Hurricane Barracuda-Palin, not to mention all the storms that are rallying around her.
