Cheyenne, WY — A new report from the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, shows the number of abortions down both in Wyoming and on Wyoming women.
According to the report, the number of abortions done in 2005 in Wyoming dropped to 70 from 80 the previous year and 100 in 2000. The figure of 70 is a historic low since 1973.
As has been the case for some time, most abortions Wyoming women get are not done in state, but are done at abortion centers elsewhere. Most are done in the Denver/Ft. Collins area, with some abortions on Wyoming women taking place in Salt Lake City, Billings and Bozeman, Montana, and a handful in other states.
The new AGI report indicates 1,100 Wyoming women obtained an abortion in 2004, but that is a decrease from the figure of 2,090 in 2000. The 2004 data shows the number of Wyoming women getting abortions is also a historic low since AGI began tracking abortion data in 1978.
“We are excited to learn that the number of abortions done on Wyoming women and done in Wyoming are both at historic lows,” says Steven Ertelt, the president of Right to Life of Wyoming.
Ertelt said the educational work that Right to Life of Wyoming does through its chapters is paying off.
“More people than ever before understand through ultrasounds that an unborn child is a human being worthy of legal protection,” Ertelt said. “And we’re helping the public understand how abortion hurts women — whether its medical complications, mental health problems or spiritual or relationship issues women face after an abortion.”
“These new figures also show that society is helping women in unexpected pregnancies understand that there are better options than abortion. Pregnancy centers, churches and other agencies in our state are doing a good job at helping women in crisis pregnancy situations,” Ertelt added.
“Right to Life of Wyoming will continue to work until the day comes that all women and children are protected from abortions.”
