Republicans, Dems, Gear Up for Hot Congressional Race

With less than two weeks to go until Election Day, the two major parties are going all-in on the contest for Wyoming’s lone vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the past several days, large two-sided postcard-flyers have landed in mailboxes, organizations have made endorsements, and commercials have hit the airwaves.

I do need to follow up on a story that I haven’t touched on in several weeks. I do want people to know that I had some comments in the moderation cue that drug the Mark Gordon criticism a little farther than I wanted. The primary had been won, it was done and over, it was time to focus on winning the General Election in November, which meant rallying the Republicans together, and this was an exceptionally tough race.

The FEC filing deadline recently passed, and I just now remembered to take a look at it. It brings me great joy to report a couple of donations:

  • GORDON, MARK MR.
    BUFFALO, WY 82834
    SELF/RANCHERLUMMIS, CYNTHIA M
    VIA LUMMIS FOR CONGRESS
    09/21/2008 1000.00 28933539396
  • GORDON, MARK MR.
    BUFFALO, WY 82834
    MERLIN RANCH INC./RANCHERMCCAIN-PALIN VICTORY 2008
    09/15/2008 5000.00 28992602987

These donations both took place after the August 19th primary. Mr. Gordon, if you or your friends are still keeping up with me and my blog, THANK YOU for helping out the Republican party this election cycle. May your contributions be part of us as Republicans winning.

Back to where I was going when I started this. The U.S. House race is surprisingly tight. The RNC has had a new postcard sent out on an almost daily basis comparing and contrasting Cynthia Lummis and Gary Traner. Even WYGOP got into the action the other day with a card proclaiming that Trauner was not a member of Wyoming’s team, but rather team-mates with Obama and Pelosi.

The Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee has poluted Wyoming’s airwaves with radio commercials claiming Cynthia Lummis wants to raise income taxes. That is what is called a lie.

Everyone’s gone crazy that our Democrat Governor has endorsed Gary Trauner. I don’t see what the big deal is. Both are Democrats. It would have been real news if the Governor endorsed Cynthia Lummis. Tucker Fagan, campaign manager for Lummis for Congress, had this to say about the GOvernor’s choice:

So, let me get this straight – the Democrat Governor of Wyoming, who endorsed and campaigned for Barack Obama in Wyoming and other states, has decided to endorse the Democrat candidate for Congress in Wyoming. Is there anyone who honestly thinks he would have done anything different? I just wonder why Gov. Freudenthal would endorse Barack Obama months ago and it took this long for him to endorse Gary Trauner – two weeks before the election. I mean, it’s not like he was going to do anything differently, but is sure took him a long time to do it.

This is only a surprise to those who are also surprised when the wind blows in Wyoming.

Perhaps the Governor is bitter that Joe Meyer got over his disagreement from the August 19th Priamry with Cynthia Lummis and is now supporting her. And let’s not forget who Mark Gordon didn’t give money to.

I received another postcard in the mail today, urging people to vote “Freedom First.” In big red letters, the card noted Gary Trauner’s good grade from the NRA. I expected to turn the card over and find the “yea, but” response to the grade, instead I found more praise for Gary Trauner, and how he won’t be going after our guns. I turned the card back over and discovered the Wyoming Democrat Party mailed it out. Wonderful. Now the Democrats are trying to reignite the Republicans for Trauner (which I was NEVER a member of).

The Wyoming Republican Party now has a radio ad out reminding voters that the way you vote is important. Republicans stand for limited government and lower taxes. I would like to second that statement, and urge you to vote for our Republican candidates in Wyoming, from McCain/Palin on down to your local races.

This country cannot afford an Obama/Biden administration. We don’t need people lacking legislative expeience being our three votes on Capitol Hill. Sens. Barrasso and Enzi have both done fine jobs in their time in Washington D.C., and adding Cynthia Lummis to the team will be good for America and Wyoming. Regardless of his grade from the NRA, Gary Trauner will not be getting my vote. There are a great many issues that need to be considered, guns among them. Look at the full candidate, and I think you’ll agree with me that Cynthia Lummis is the best choice for Wyoming.
