Enzi Maintains Seniority As Wyoming’s Senior Senator

In a decisive show of support, Wyoming voters turned out supporting their Senior Senator, Mike Enzi.

Sen. Enzi has enjoyed popularity across the state, serving as the Senate’s only CPA. His ultimate goal is to get on the Finance Committee, but he has not convinced his party leadership of the value of having an accountant on a committee dealing with taxpayer money.

During his time of service in the Senate, he has legislated on his popular 80-20 principle, noting that on 80% of the issues, people agree on, and if you focus on the 80%, you can get things done. As a result, Sen. Enzi has been instrumental in getting legislation to President Bush.

In 2007, Sen. Enzi became the Senior Senator from Wyoming after the passing of Craig Thomas. When he was passed over for a position on the Finance Committee earlier this year, speculation abounded that Sen. Enzi would be stepping down. He never indicated what his plans were until this Spring, and even then, he didn’t advertise if his speech would be an announcement for or against candidacy. Even the speech had a mysterious tone to it that did not immediately reveal his plans.

Like Sen. Barrasso, he was projected to win shortly after the polls closed in Wyoming, and when all the precincts had reported in, he took in 76% of the vote. Sen. Enzi has now been elected to three terms in the U.S. Senate.
