With less than a month clearing the election, Republicans are still alive an well in Wyoming. One group that is energized and still gearing up in spite of election day setbacks is the state’s Young Republicans.
Earlier this year, Russ Hart, now a Republican Precinct Committeeman in Sheridan, began a drive to get Wyoming chartered into the Young Republicans National Federation.
At times the task has seemed enormous, trying to get people to sign up in a busy election cycle, trying to figure out ways of getting the word out, and hoping that somewhere, there would be someone that could get the word out to a wide array of Wyoming Republicans.
In the early part of the task, the District Director in Colorado was trying to negotiate a deal that would have allowed Wyoming to charter with only 50 members, but that fell through and left the Wyoming YR’s the task of getting a full 75 membership roster before chartering. A Facebook group became a home to interested individuals, a social networking site specifically for Young Republicans became a place to hang out, and one by one, people signed up.
A surge in July brought the membership to 35 members. Shortly after the August 19 primary, the milestone of 50 members was reached. By Nov. 4, the membership had attained only a few more members. While concerned that interest could start dying off now that the elections are over, Chapter Formation Team members are continuing to promote the Wyoming Young Republican Chapter Formation Drive through e-mails, blogging and online social networking, word of mouth, and brochures.
Over the past few weeks, TheĀ Wyoming Young Republicans Facebook Group doubled in size from it’s summer membership size to 45 members. Additionally, 18 members on YRNetwork.com now call Wyoming home, some of whom are on the Facebook group as well. While these numbers are encouraging, Russ Hart notes that the individuals still need to contact him and express their interest in joining to get added to the list.
A message sent out to members of the Facebook group just before Thanksgiving noted this fact and drew in enough members to put the current total at 60 members, meeting 80% of the membership requirement, just 15 members shy of being able to officially organize.
If you or someone you know is a registered Republican in the state of Wyoming and between the ages of 18 and 40, don’t delay, contact Russ Hart today at 406-861-6793 or by email at hart.prec4.4@gmail.com and find out how easy it is to become a member of the Wyoming Young Republicans. You can also contact him through the Wyoming Young Republicans Facebook group, or on YRNetwork.com, both of which are free and easy to join.

YR are vital to combat what’s happening on the nation’s campuses. The indoctrination of liberal ideas use colleges as a breeding ground. YR can help prevent this and make a difference. I know I was a member my first two years of college.
