Wolf Case Needs New Court and Judge

Who would have thunk? Environmentalists going court and judge shopping for their cause? Judging by what a judge in Missoula, MT says, that’s exactly what happened. Continue Reading »

Predator Wolf Killed in My Back Yard!

Not literally in my back yard, but close enough! I live on the east edge of Cody, just past Wyoming Hwy. 120, the line making the safe zone for wolves in this area. If they are west of the highway, they must be shot in season with a license, or under jurisdiction of the Game and Fish. If they are east of the highway, they’re free game as long as you report to Game and Fish that you shot it. Ironically, the Game and Fish office up here is located on the east side of the highway. If they are on the highway, I’m not sure what the status of the wolf is, other than roadkill. Wouldn’t that be fun to report? Continue Reading »

Enzi: “We’ve been proud to serve you.”

In case you haven’t heard or seen the news, Sen. Enzi made his decision public yesterday. For the past several months, Republican officials have been pondering what Wyoming’ senior senator was going to do this year. The media has been prying to end to get some kind of idea what to write about. Granted, Sen. Enzi is pretty popular, so a re-election could be fairly easy, but everyone wants to know if they should be watching for a new Republican face to come along. Continue Reading »

Wolf Loose!

I don’t get it. Wolves were never supposed to leave The Park (Yellowstone, for you out-of-staters), and yet there needs to be a management plan for wolves to be handed over to state control. Wyoming to the most “controversial” position and gave them dual-status, depending on location. Continue Reading »

Cynthia Lummis Officially In

I know, a lot of you are saying, “Scott! Where’s the big formal announcement?!?!?! She’s your candidate; why haven’t you posted the announcement????

I’m here to tell you, it’s OK; calm down; we’re gonna be alright.

I had a phone call from Annaliese today. She tried to send me some stuff and my e-mail account, for whatever crazy reason, decided to bounce it. I have since reprimanded my e-mail account (all known and possible lummis2008.com addresses are now “safe”). In the mean time, while waiting for the full official text, I figured I’d share some quotes from Tuesday that I do have. Continue Reading »

Campaign Watch, 3/25/2008

It’s not much of a secret that this year’s Congressional and Senatorial elections in Wyoming are going to be huge. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening on the campaign trail and what I think it means. Continue Reading »

It’s Time to Get Excited About Someone

My fellow Wyomingites, this year we face an important and historic election cycle in this state. I know many of you (myself included) are somewhat distraught about the Republican Presidential nomination process. Our nominee has been picked for us by the influence of Independents and Democrats in open primary states and the struggle of having two conservatives in the race vying for the same block of voters.

Let not your heart be troubled. It’s not the end of the world because we didn’t get our favored nominee. It just means we’re gonna have to do some self-examination and regrouping in the party over the next four to eight years.

On another, more exciting token, we have a rare event taking place in Wyoming this year. Continue Reading »

9ing and Dining in Lovell, WY

On Saturday, March 15, I made up one-fourth of a group of Park County Republicans that “crashed” the Big Horn County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner in Lovell, Wyoming. The event was not as large or elegant as the dinner held in Cody a month prior, but it was still nice to get to socialize with some Republicans from the rival county. Following is a recollection of what happened. Continue Reading »

Will Wyoming Republicans Be Excited?

Some interesting recent happenings with Wyoming Republicans:

  • Over the weekend, Wyoming’s retiring U.S. Representative received the Sheridan County GOP’s Better World Award. In accepting the award, she gave the reluctant McCain endorsement, criticized both Democrat Presidential contenders, and encouraged support for former State Treasurer Cynthia Lummis in her campaign to be the Wyoming Republican nominee for U.S. House. One wonders why she didn’t choose Mark Gordon. Rep. Cubin noted that it is important for Wyoming Republicans to show up this fall and counter the enthusiasm on the Democrat side.
  • Speaking of Mark Gordon, the most recent Republican U.S. House candidate, recently stopped in Jackson Hole and campaigned on his usual “bring the Republican Party back to its roots” platform. The article didn’t mention it, but some would wonder if he met with Gary Trauner (D-WY) while he was in town :-O
  • While Rep. Cubin was receiving her award in Sheridan, on this side of the Big Horns, Big Horn County Republicans (and a few legal impostors from Park County) socialized and dined in Lovell.  Also there were Republican U.S. House candidates Bill Winney and State Rep. Dan Zwonitzer, and Jennie Gordon representing her husband, and Annaliese Wiederspahn for her mom, Cynthia Lummis. U.S. House Candidate Swede Nelson was supposed to be there, but he couldn’t motivate his car to work. More on this event in a separate forthcoming post.
  • Monday night, the aforementioned U.S. House Candidate, Bill Winney stopped in Cody with his wife for a meet-and-greet at the VFW. Free hot dogs were served (and not the itty-bitty ones either), so being a good Baptist, I attended. The event was not a hugely attended one, but it did provide for a nice informal conversation with the Republican candidate. He talked about small government Republican values, the need to somehow secure the boarder, his distrust of the thought process behind man-caused global climate change, bureaucracy as related to energy policy and public education, and the need to stay in Iraq if we are to win.
